i just got a new firewire and if you have ever seen 1, u would know how plain they look. I drew out a few designs. Before i do it, i was wondering if it will change how it rides at all. Also, i was wondering what the best product is to put over the paint to protect the paint from chipping
Board painting has been discussed a couple times on here... You can do a forum search for something like "paint board". Here is the most relevant threads, I found: http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2295&highlight=paint+board
Spray cans are a tough medium. If you use them avoid generic (cheap paint fades in color and is thinner than my piss), and if you have time order up some Belton Molotow Paint and Grey dot caps (skinny line). Lay a coat of flat white before you do it to act as a primer and avoid drips and remember that the can is not designed to spray something on the ground. Lean it up and spray out straight or else you'll have a mess... on your board. Really, a surfboard, in my opinion is not enough room to utilize spray paint unless you are also using stencils, but if you do it just use a couple layers of clear to seal and protect it. If your good with a brush do it that way. Paint markers take some practice to get the results you want, so put in some time before you do it to your brand new board.
if your going to paint your board with spray paint the best idea would be to get Montana, or Belton spray paint. which can be purchased at www.artprimo.com or www.bombingscience.com its paint designed specifically for graffiti. mean its high opaque, and long lasting. just think of it this way. if you paint a wall with this the chances of it coming off without leaving a "ghost" is impossible. i have a small stencil cut out i have put on the bottom of my board with Montana paint, and it been there for about a year now and it hasnt faded or anything. so go for paint like that. its not a good idea to use your lowes brand or anything like rustoleum or krylon. hope it helps out.
I would say the montana gold is the best paint on the market today. There a store in red bank nj that sells it along with all the caps from thin to outline to pink dots. The place is called, Colorest 60 Newman Springs Rd E, Red Bank - (732) 741-0001. The cans will run you just under 8 bucks but well worth it for any kinda spray art. And also dont forget a satin clear coat. You gonna wanna spray that over your board over the artwork youve done. Put like 5 coats on it
