i really want to paint one of my boards.... but im not realy sure if i should since i dont no what iam doing, should i use spray paint or something else?
2 layrs of spray paint, 2 layrs of gloss acrylic... i'll post pics of the board i just painted.... if you're good with paint pens, use those then the acrylic.
dont do it on a nice one first i did it on my worst board then i sold it and got 175 and i bought it for 250 but it was pretty banged up anyway
You can use regular spray paint as long as you use a clear coat afterwards. Or you could get the spray paint made for plastic it will hold out longer.. I still suggest using a clear coat even with the plastic spray paint. this is a board i did with regular spray paint and clear coat and stencils
^^ paint pens are the way to go if your artistic. Never like the way spray paint came out. Here's a pic of one board my boy John did.....I think it's the sickest board i ever seen.
http://www.drewbrophy.com/index.htm they are just paint pens....no airbrushing at all...you can blend them with your fingers. I'm not saying that your art will come out like these...but...it's all up to your abilities. This is exactly what my bro used in the pic.
yea i realy want to paint my board like this.... go to www.jsindustries.com and look under board sprays and it is the green spray called sp03, could i do that with spray paint or use the pens?
I could be wrong but that site looks like that's a selection of designs they offer for their boards. Not a spray product or decal, inlay of any kind. I would contact the site and ask questions. If you are not artistic you can always get a inlay. I've seen some pretty cool inlay's before. Spray paint can be pulled off if it is done right. Not my style. Paint Pens are the way to go. IMO .....I could show you plenty of surfboards that my friend has done that will blow your mind. I recommend getting the DVD from that site. It will show you the basics and some tricks on how to blend colors and teaches how to draw designs on your board.
thats a spray...and not a really hard one from the looks. Although its ALL hard seriously, it looks like it just gets taped off once, and just hit it with the yellow and then the green...you'll need a fine gun and a fine touch. And don't use cheap tape..you'll regret it believe me. 1/4" auto quality for the curves, 1" for the straights...
i just posted int he other thread. and ill say some of the same stuff. if you are going to use spray paint to paint your board. go with a high quality spray paint such as Montana, or Belton. they were both designed by graffiti artists for graffiti. its extremely permanant, highly opaque, and it comes in over 200+ colors and shades. it comes with caps. but it would be a good idea to invest in some specialty caps such as, fading caps, outline, and fat caps. they can all be purchased for like 3.99 for 25 of them. can be purchased at www.artprimo.com or www.bombingscience.com as well as LOCAL graffiti shops, or art botiques. you wont find it at michaels or anything. i would personally steer away from paint markers. they are not long lasting and the colors will fade with exposure to the sun and water even if under a clear coat.
Hog wash.....Sounds like whoever painted their board didn't have a clue as to what they were doing....I've had boards painted for years and they look pretty much like they did when they were first painted. All boards fade in time. You just need to take good care of them. UV rays can be a *****. Clear coat is key. They do make UV protective clear coat. Paint markers > Rattle can.....unless your airbrushing.
paint pens hey guys, not to knock drew brophys pens,, but in times like these everyone needs to save money. go to any site that you can order sharpie from and you can pick your colors order the sharpie- poster pens.... they are the exact pens drew uses... and if you go through sharpie, you can save tons of bills. use your fingers to blend and clear coat it... good luck!!
