If it's the pic I'm thinking of it's Will Skudin. I've posted it before but pi$$ed a couple dudes off, which made me develop the new policy of 'if I don't surf there, I won't post pics of there'...you could find the pic pretty easily though.
funny when theres no photogs out they bytch, ohh nobody got my shot.then u take pics and other people complain.i look at it like this, when I take pics,I make sure theres no landmarks or anything in the background to give the spot up.i see so many pics of people sayin secret spot, and its like hey I kno that boardwalk,i know that railing,i kno the lake infront.just take pics on the beach, all u see is sand and water
I have to say this rivalry on the best break in nj just boggles my mind . Nj is good when its good , ****ty when it sucks , Its not a world class break by no means , belmar may get big or bigger then down the road , but still falls apart after any swell that's bigger then double over head .(even a blind squirrel get a nut every once in a while) . if the right conditions are at belmar . it real good I admit that , it fires , but so does lbi , ac, cape may and so many more . don't get me wrong any surfer that surfs threw the winter here in the northeast (Belmar of course) are true hard core . an 8 foot wave in the winter isnt the scary part . its the cold that plays a factor . Seen friends come down here to surf from oz , and hi , one or two duck dives their calling it from the coldness of water, and I have watch these guy drop into some big ass bombs on the north shore and feel right at home but here nfw , pansies . Belmar is a good when its good , but still **** when the condition suck , its nj . Believe me I know you guys love that spot . I see it every post . but how do you progress in surfing if its just one wave you ride , every wave is different from the next , the way u approach it , board choice , fins , rocker , shape of wave, power , length of ride . Belmar is good , even epic more than most you say , but surfing is not about being bounded by one break , or being a rippa , its about having fun . Who cares just surf . Have fun surfing anywhere.
Its interesting to me you mentioned you found the spot kiting. I've found 2 "secret" spots that I now regularly surf/kite and paddleboard thanks to doing downys and exploring the islands with my kite. Same situation, I've showed a few friends and no one wants to paddle out during a real swell. I surfed this one particular spot by myself during a big hurricane swell last fall and it was epic. Its about a 175 yard paddle out and looooooong lefts. Heres a crappy pic i took one day with my cell phone thru some binoculars.
that looks like a great wave to surf and kitesurf . just park it and ride ! The world of kiting is not that same mentality as surfing and its so refreshing . but they do complement each other so well
You make a great point. Kiting is refreshing and different. specially in the aspect of expectations. choppy surf is no problem when you can make it over the sections easy. Although I will be honest, I don't like kiting alone. Ive been caught in some sketchy situations that my friends bailed me out of. The wave in that pic looks sick.
