So, I'm saving up for a new wintersuit and keep seeing this bad boy at my local shop. For $225, should I do it?

just picked one up b/c it was also on sale for 230. used it twice. having major pains with the zipper and isnt as flexible as I had hoped.

i think i got what i paid for in mobility- so that doesnt bother me- but 5 min trying to get the chest zip started really pisses me off. kind of a **** design- you cant hold both chest pieces and zip unless theres a third hand around or you get lucky.

I have a dawn patrol 5/3 and wearing it in Maine. Very flexible in the arms, a little water gets in, but it is very warm and was just 180$.

I've owned a 4/3 e bomb and a 5/4 hooded flash bomb. I think they're both great suits but flexibility will always be hindered when you branch out into the 5 mil zone. I think my 5/4 FB is as flexible as any oneill/billabong/patagonia suit. I don't regret my purchase but i can say that i can't wait to shed this rubbed tire I'm wrapped in.

225 - good deal, you probably won't regret it unless your expecting to feel like your in boardies. remember - its a wetsuit. they are way more expensive on ripcurl.com and most online stores. I would definitely get it.

Check around for a used one if you're as cheap as I am. I landed a used RipCurl EBomb 5.5/4.5 for $150 off the dude at the surf shop. Love the suit, and the smell was only mildly horrific.

A little "Piss off" will help the smell a lot! Ripcurl sells it. Also, any other neoprene detergent will do.

tempting price, but try to make sure the wetsuit fits you very well. I don't think you want to go out in a suit that fits o.k. in the shop, only to find it flushing with ice water once it loosens up. It should feel pretty tight everywhere when trying it on in the shop.

Remember, shop employees are trying to sell, so they might say it fits fine when it's really too loose. If in doubt, try on everything, even if it means shelling out for another brand that fits very well.

Couldn't agree more. Fit test it well. Older suits have a tendency to tighten up over time where newer suits are usually pretty accurate. do some stretching in the fitting room. People may wonder what's going on in there but its not their money, its yours.

I just got a ebomb 5.5/4.5. First time wearing it today in 43 degree water with 15-20 mph wnw winds. I was sweating at times. Really amped on the warmth. Only knock is the knee area is a bit stiff. I usually only wear O'Neil and love them, but this one was on sale from 339$ to $259. Im pretty excited with it. But maybe the good surf this morning helped me like it more.

Its a more flexible version of the suit, and doesn't have the flash lining. Still really warm though.

They actually don't make the f-bomb anymore. They went straight e-bomb then H-bomb (powered suit). then realizing they needed a supreme cold water suit that people could afford - the Flashbomb replaced it. i got one for like 370 although they can run up to 500. stupid expensive but when the water is cold i'll pay up. they got us by the hanging bull

I got my f bomb last winter For 450 I think. It was the most expensive one I could get besides Patagonia. F bomb is very flexible I think.. It's wearing thin as of recently tho... Probably has 30 good sessions in it that's all

Yeah - did you buy it online or in shop? It could have been on the hangar for a year or two. Are the shoulders where it is thinning? My bombs thinned out there but only after two years. East Of Maui in Dewey beach DE was selling an F bomb that was at least 1 if not 2 years old for 400 this past summer. I even mentioned it and the guy was like naw man new suit. I chuckled. New to the owner means new I guess.

I have one in Providence, used only one season, either L or M/T. Ping me if you want it for a steal price. Wearing Isurus now, 4/3 gets me through the winter.

My general experience with Rip Curl winter suits is they tend to be the lightest softest neoprene of the "normal" manufacturers, and are awsome the first year. But year 2 mine have always started leaking, they seem to lack on the durability.

that's why I never hang my suit by the shoulders. Hanging by the waist gets significant longer life out of them.

o'neill "technobutter" suits are the lightest, by a wide margin.

Rips Curl's "liquid tape" has improved exponentially over the years, but O'neill's is still better/longer lasting...which makes sense considering they invented it and have years of R&D over Rip Curl

I don't mind paying top dollar for a winter suit.. It's so important in Maine. So that said what's the absolute best winter suit, I'm talking surf when it's 10 degrees and windy. I figured its Patagonia.. Which is on my list of needs. Unfortunately surfers in the north need this gear to have a good time.
