Does anyone thing that there are any serious health risks of surfing what could be epic NJ tomorrow? The water temps are standard for a winter swell, but the air temp is apparently going to be around 5 degrees with the wind chill.

I concur. Don't go out. Look up the grom from Rhode Island who wants to take a trip to PR. Pay his way to PR & you've got your very own board caddy for life.

5 degree wind chill is no joke. I was out in 10 degree once and I got frozen inside a barrel. Had to wait 3 days for the wave to thaw and to be spit out. It was worth it though, the reaction on the beach to my epic barrel was priceless.

Don't take mother nature lightly. I'll admit to being guilty of this in the past - more so in my younger days.
But I think if you have to ask if it's dangerous, then you shouldn't go out.

No, no health risks you bozo but you will probably be cold. Will it even be good tomorrow? Should I be planning to surf? Right now I am not.

The only thing that can come to my mind at the moment is surfers ear, and thats long term. Heres the wikipedia definition-Irritation from cold wind and water exposure causes the bone surrounding the ear canal to develop lumps of new bony growth which constrict the ear canal. Where the ear canal is actually blocked by this condition, water and wax can become trapped and give rise to infection. The condition is so named due to its prevalence among cold water surfers. Being from Georgia i dont have to worry very much at all about extreme health risks from the cold.

It'll reduce your chances of being the world surfing champ by 6.93% give or take 2.2% standard deviation based on assumed BMI based on the average hard charging east coaster. Does that answer your question?

Who would suspect surfing in the winter is colder and better, as for health risks , don't worry it's more sharky this time of year you won't have time to be sick.
