hey all, me and my buddy decided to go to costa rica on april instead of panama. hope we made a good choice. anyhow, we are going to be renting a car in san jose and headin' north to the Guanacaste área. we're figuring out where to stay, having in mind that we are looking to adventure around the área to surf diferent spots. we're gonna be there for only 15 days, so I think im going to leave the 'roadtrip from north to south' trip for another trip. ive been looking into the nosara área, and to stay at playa guiones and use it a a base? thank you peeps
there might be some big swells going though around that time like some doh ****. id find some place that/./ near by has some sheltered spots as well.
thanks for the comment man. I forgot to mention, were looking to stay at a place WITH a break infront or close.
after doing some more research, seems like nosara might be a Little easy going breaks? were intermidiate surfers looking to push our levels. thinking on staying on playa avellanes now, read online playa negra is pretty close and many other breaks.
i love avellanes its great, never got to surf negra always wanted to. make sure you do surf negra that is my one regret. never been to nosora but have always herd great things. last april for my birthday i was down in mal pais which take for ever to get there but its was a fun trip with huge surf some mushy 12ft waves rolling in.
would you reccomend a place to stay at avellanas? were looking for something with AC, not asking for a lot but dont want to stay in a **** hole. looking for 20-40$ a person per night.
i dont know any personalty, i stayed in tamarindo and surfed avellanas a few times. you might want to try to find some cheap hotel in playa grande or something. ill tell you what though no matter what you do you going to have a good time down there. great waves, good vibes..and can crowd up pretty big sometimes.
A good friend of mine has a really sweet place right on the beach in Playa Grande. He will rent you the entire house (which is huge) or the downstairs is divided into two separate places. The two of you could easily fit into just one. There's a huge bed, bathroom with hot water and nice shower, also a big walk-in closet that locks so you can put your valuables in there. There's also a kitchen complete with everything you need to cook, etc... Out the front door is a really cool courtyard with a pool and out the back door is the beach! There's a killer little bar area and also some hammocks etc... on the back patio which is where we spend all of our time out of the water. The view from there is so sweet! My friends that own the place are Allan and Kathy Keyes and their place is called "Villa de la Roca". Its one of the last houses on the strip at Playa Grande and is right near the rock. The regular break is within walking distance. That's the one in front of the Tortuga Hotel. On the right swell though there is a really good reef break directly in front of his house which I've managed to catch a few times and really scored! I posted a link so you can see some picts of the house and what not. Don't go by the prices mentioned. Those are for the entire house rental. Allan is really laid back and will certainly give you a good deal, especially if you are staying for awhile. Playa Grande is a good base camp and there are tons of good breaks in either direction of there. If you haven't already gotten plane tickets, I would highly recommend you fly into Liberia instead of San Jose. The beach (Playa Grande, Tamarindo etc...) is only about 30 min from the airport and you can rent a car out there. Its so much better than driving from San Jose, not to mention way safer! On top of that customs and baggage claim etc... is way quicker. The more time you save will all that crap the more time you get to spend in the water!!!! Holler or "pm" if you need anything.... if you are considering staying at Allan's place don't hesitate, their place is very popular so you want to make sure to make a reservation or let him know you are coming. http://www.vrbo.com/4280
I will suggest you Guanacaste aswell. http://www.dreamseasurfcamp.com http://www.dreamseasurfcampcostarica.com
