Is it worth it for someone who is learning to surf to mount up his go pro? also what is the best way to capture surfing with the go pro
Most people on here would probably agree, it's best if you aim it at yourself. So your crotch is centered in the screen.
A coupla don'ts in addition to what he ^^ said: Don't be using that technology to film your action with wayne the insane in the back of the white van. Don't be filming what you do with latex love dolls out in the barn. Don't be filming 23' pier shotting. Well, on second thought, maybe actually do film 23' pier shotting.
im getting real tired of these gopro clips, they need to mount it anywhere but the nose and the tail.put it on your nose and all I see is your dental work, put it on the tail and I see your rear bouncing around.good for female surfers, not for males.put on a helmet or something,or get one of those pool noodles and put it up there.that would be cool.i think u can get cool footage on a drone, just need someone controlling it on the beach
I actually rigged up a head strap. Works pretty well and looks 1000 times better then the nose/tail shots. I have only used the GoPro maybe 3 or 4 times, I am usually to excited to surf that grabbing the GoPro isn't even a thought in my mind. I might bring it out tomorrow though since its been like 3 years since the last time I used it. If I do ill throw a quick video together to show you guys. As far as is it worth it, I don't know. If you like watching yourself surf I guess. I like keeping the memories of waves up in my brain. The wave is always bigger in my head then on a computer screen
you dont have to face it towards yourself. check the nobodies out thread for a clip i just posted of today
The wave is always better in memory. Kind of like seeing a movie of a good book. ruined. One time I watched some of my gopro footage because I got a good barrel and wanted to see it. epic fail. merely a slight cover up. ruined what I thought I had ridden.
Id rather see myself surf from shore that way you can see everything and get the whole picture the wave and yourself. Get a soloshot (I think that's what it's called). A go pro it's worth it if you just want to watch one aspect of the wave and it can be used with a lot of other sports too
Well go pro's kinda mess up your board… u have to pretty much delam the fiberglass area that the actual mount was on because it doesn't come off. IMHO I hate people that put go pro's on their boards, especially when they are new. The question is: What are you going to use the footage for? Are you going to spend all that money and time and effort and whatever else your spending to just get stuff that sits on your computer. Thats my 2 cents...
These guys have it figured out... http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/gopro-of-the-winter-december-finalists_105867/
Do GoPros turn off when they get to cold? I took mine out today with the rigged up head strap. after maybe a half hour I heard a beeping. Didn't really care. when I got out I noticed the GoPro was off and was a solid block of ice. I should of gotten a few waves on it though ill post it up after work today or somthing
I'm about to set one up on my board. I'm using it more to see if I'm progressing with my pop. I think the pop up is probably one of the most important aspects of surfing. Between the timing, the proper foot placement, and speed, the pop up sets you up for the rest of your wave, and if you screw it up... you're SCREWED. Anyway, I'll probably use mine to check to see if I'm getting the pop up downnnnn dawg.
You can mount it on your d!ck too. Vote Rcarter in 2014 Because if we all work together we can all hate everybody.
I think getting a Go Pro is a great idea for beginners. More than simply helping you with your form, they work as great conversation piece with experienced surfers you may rubbing shoulders with out in the lineup. Nothing can make you look more wired into the latest wave of the commercialization of surfing like Go Pro technology. It's very 2014, and it will help you become a more advanced surfer without having to log in all those hours/days/weeks/months/years of trial & error like they had to in the old days. They also work really well at lesser-known breaks & secret spots .
