SODs are good for sure. Mike Paul at Hot Wax works wonders as well.

 

65ive surfboards he did my nose repair on my merrick but he also shapes good boards i've heard good stuff about him and his boards.

 

Go check out SOD and Wrightsville Glassing, Scooter Raynor is back in the shaping room!! Got a board from him this summer and cant be happier. Also check out Will Allison

 

i thought allison only does longboards but his logs are awesome i know someone with one and he loves it. but also dave yearwood he does fishes and is good at it. also dave yearwood his logs are also great.

 

Will might do some shortboard stuff, but yes he is mainly a hybrid/long/fun shaper. Heard nothing but good things about yearwood, seen some of his shapes over at Wrightsville glassing and they look pretty good. As far as performance shortboards, SOD and Raynor will steer you the right way!!

 

drive an hour south and get the best board on the east coast from Kelly Richards.

Perfection

 

I have a Proline (7'6" short board for a fat ass) from Mike Paul and a Perfection (9'0" originally shaped for Tony Sylvagni) from Kelly Richards and I can say that both are top notch boards. I'd recommend either.

 

yeah perfections are also i good ive heard good stuff about them as well as all the others. but just go around a nd look at some models the different shapers have. bnut it also depends on if you want a shortboarda fish all that stuff palys a big role in getting a custom surfboard.

 

Pride

I ordered a board from Dave Endress over a year ago. I don't know what level your surfing is at, or what your riding now, but I had him make me a custom quad and it's magical. Over the years I've ordered boards from shapers on both coasts from fishes to big guns. I can't stress enough the relationship you develop with a shaper to tune your equipment. Though I've had some good boards, Dave was the first shaper to really listen to my concerns and created a board that blew me away. He taught nearly every other shaper in the area what they know and in my opinion, he's the best. Not only do I recommend him as a custom shaper, but I can assure you that my next board will be a Pride.

 

does any of you guys now any shaper that does board art. cause im wanting to get some artwork doen on my merrick but i cant draw so im wondering if any shpaer can do board art.

 

WBsurfer- If you want some graphics on a board you already own just have an artistic friend do it up with acrylic paint pens and seal it with a clear acrylic. If you want a new board with some sick color work check out Austin surfboards in VA Beach. They do some of the sickest swirls and patterns ive ever seen. I like the faux wood swirl that Blue Ridge does as well, but ive never seen one of their boards first hand.

There are a couple of other good shapers in the AB/EI area as well. Check out Carl Heverly, Chris Jones, or Dave Dixon. They are all top notch.
