Hey, I'm Josh Klein, owner/operator/shaper from Xylem Surfboards. I've been making paipos and alaias exclusively since 2008. Back then, I was living in Kohala (on the Big Island) shaping boards in the grass under a tent. Today my family and I are in Wilmington, NC by the atlantic. Even though I'm far away from Hawaii, I'm still as fully committed to making quality paipos as I ever was. I hope to have the opportunity to shape a custom paipo or alaia for you! There are many that make surfboards, there are none that make them like Xylem!

So stoked I found this post. I just watched 'a deeper shade of blue' for a second time yesterday and the alaia boards really spoke to me. So happy your are a local craftsmen too! Local economy all the way. Will be in touch the next week or so to get a REAL board made! It does seem you have managed to get leashes attached too, which is sweeet as wrightsville requires them.
