Me and my bro had a surf lesson the other day. He thought it was crap but I loved it so much that I went again surfing on my own yesterday. In the lesson I managed to stand up and carve the wave but yesterday it was so much harder. It was also way less friendly than I thought. This one dude caught the waves with me but started shouting at me. But in the end he told me some nice things though. He said I should not catch his waves, and that yesterday the wave's were 'choppie' and harder to learn on. Is he right? Are choppie waves harder to surfs and should I not surf waves with others? We were all doing it in the lesson and it was so fun. Anyway, I just wanted to share my happiness. Surfing is so fun I can't believe it. Why isn't everyone doing it? maybe they are like my bro - fat and useless. lol. Can't wait to go again now.
*caught ... Haha congrats home slice! I kinda feel like this is a joke though since people on this forum joke around quite a bit.
That was what I was thinking. Its to perfect not to be a joke. "This one dude caught the waves with me but started shouting at me" I don't know why I find that so funny
"Choppie" waves are not ideal to surf but if you really feel the need to go ahead. lol I do feel like this is the pimp in training or just another member trying to create some humour
Oh boy, this thread could get entertaining... But if you end up not being a troll, I hope that you have found the stoke. But watch out that stoke is a dangerous thing mannnn. You will never stop looking for that next fix. Have fun ditching every future BS obligation to score some surf. But hey, Don't worry it will be totally worth it.
Even with my limited time on this board, I think we have a PBJ sighting right here. Signature touches, all very tasteful & appropriate. Most excellent.
Heya dudes. Sorry I don't get the joke, did I drop a funny? I am definitely NOT a troll though we had one of those on the warhammer forum and that dude was a ****. The teacher in the lesson told us surfing was addictive and now i no it is! I have dreamed of it every night since the lesson and you dudes even have a thread on it!! Can somebody tell me why is the choppie waves no good for learning? And how can I know when they will be choppie? I can't wait to go again. But next time I will only catch waves on my own and hope to not make people angry.
Make sure you wax the bottom of the board, it will slow you down and make standing up for the first time easier! Also, learn to bench like a man.
About the water[edit] Beach break: An area where waves that are good enough to surf break just off a beach, or on a sandbar farther out Blown out: When waves that would otherwise be good have been rendered too choppy by wind Bomb: An exceptionally large set wave Choppy, chop: Waves that are subjected to cross winds have a rough surface (chop) and do not break cleanly Close-out: A wave is said to be "closed-out" when it breaks at every position along the face at once, and therefore cannot be surfed Face: The forward-facing surface of a breaking wave Flat: No waves Gas chamber: The effect when a big wave rolls over, enclosing a temporary horizontal tunnel of air with the surfer inside[3] Glassy: When the waves (and general surface of the water) are extremely smooth and glossy, not disturbed by wind Gnarly: Large, difficult, and dangerous (usually applied to waves) Line-up: The area where most of the waves are starting to break and where most surfers are positioned in order to catch a wave[4] Off the hook: A positive phrase meaning the waves are a very good size and shape Outside: The part of the water's surface that is farther from the shore than the area where most waves are breaking Point break: Area where an underwater rocky point creates waves that are suitable for surfing Sections: The parts of a breaking wave that are rideable Set waves: A group of waves of larger size within a swell Shoulder: The unbroken part of the wave Surf's up: A phrase used when there are waves worth surfing Swell: A series of waves that have traveled from their source in a distant storm, and that will start to break once the swell reaches shallow enough water Whitewater: After the wave has finished breaking, it continues on as a ridge of turbulence and foam, the whitewater "'Stoked"': happy, excited
This right here is the best advice! Do this, and screw what that dude told you, ride any damn wave you want little buddy!
Heya! The teacher at the lesson said we don't need wax on our boards. They are the soft ones that can hit you and not hurt. I did think it was harder in the choppie waves to stand up so would wax really help this? Thanks dudes for the help I am so new to this that any help you can tell me like the angry guy done will help me carve some waves like I did in the lesson. That was so fun! But I think I wont catch waves with the angry guy again, I though he was going to hit me when he was shouting and riding at me with his board. Some of them words above are funny! I will have to learn them so I can talk about surfing better.
Great to hear!! Welcome! Keep surfing. Don't drop in on ppl tho like that guy said... Actually try to stay some distance from other surfers when learning- if of coarse they are learning too. Third and last (but not least) book a flight to Belmar ,NJ when you think your ready to handle real waves!!
Yo Coppie dudebrah! I feel your stoke. "The Stoke" can get you very far, especially in crowded spots with heavy locals. Next time you see another person on the wave you want, just yell "PARTY WAVE!!!" as you stand up, go "WHOOOHOO!" and at the end of the wave congratulate on everyone for their great rides. Then paddle back out and do it again, as you froth in the line up about how great the last ride was. This will get everyone's stoke factor elevated to your level and will result in a full on "STOKEFEST". As for choppie waves, they are my favorite to surf because they are so random> They will make youvery spontaneous in your movements, and you will have a very fast aggro style of surfing suited to these mutant bumps of water. Floaters, hard off the lip vertical moves. and giant airs can be had on the regs on choppie peaks and bowls. I am stoked just thinking about my next session in blown out chop. Peace!
fugg yea surfdogg wins this one by a mile. WOOOOHOOOOO it's almost memorial day!!! bring out your soft top with the Canadian flag emblem on it! bring extra sunscreen! aim for the pier. shoot it don't shot it. then if you really want to shred. aim for the jetty!
PJB would have thrown in an aboot at some point in those posts. I think it's a shredmachine. Anyone care to trace where the IP is from?
