Anyone would be a fool to think that your rights and Freedom to speak your mind on any subject, especially concerning government and its officials, isn't won by the selfless sacrifice of those in military service to our Country. Thanks to all who have fought and served past and present. Especially to those here that share the same love for the ocean and waves as we do.
This is ignorance if I'd ever seen ignorance before. You are misled and very uneducated. Clearly you know nothing of the war in Afghanistan and you have definitely never spoken with a combat veteran of either war, in Iraq or the current war in Afghanistan. A) "Would old ladies be getting frisked at the airport?" Really, is that a serious question? Have you ever met a Radical Muslim Extremist? Have you ever been to a country filled with death caused by Muslim Extremists? Apparently you haven't because they do not care who they kill as long as they kill. They'd have no problem strapping a bomb under a lady's dress and having her walk on a plane and blow up. Not only that, who says an old lady is innocent? I've been frisked in my uniform in the airport before and yes I found it annoying, but if it means that I can feel safe getting on a plane then so be it. I bet you're all about 'equal opportunity' correct? Here is some equal opportunity, we randomly search everyone or anyone who is a threat no matter what there age, gender, and ethnicity is. Therefore, we don't show bias because god forbid we show bias towards Muslims (even though only a few radicals in there religion caused there reputation as a whole, but you don't see white men blowing up planes) people like you will get there panties up in a bunch. B)"Ever since 'butch' allowed 9/11 gas prices went up" I like how you are blaming gas prices on Bush and 9/11. How about you do some research before you speak. I'd like to use data from Fox News; of course a person like you would say they're too biased, so according to CNN the average gas price of each presidents term is; Obama: $3.04; Bush: $2.98 (this is including inflation, so it is accurate). It seems gas prices have risen more under Obama's government. And to refute your response I know you will have, according to CNN again, "During Bush's terms, gas prices climbed about 50 cents, about the same increase as Clinton saw during his eight-year run" Oh man, so the conservative president was just as bad as your liberal presidents Mr. Obama and Mr. Clinton. Let me guess, we went to Iraq for oil right? So far it seems you just talked out of your ass, as most liberals do. C)"if we were going to war to help the helpless, I'd bet the Congo or Sudan might be a better place to start." This is one of the most idiotic things I'd ever heard. Why don't you ****ing go to Arlington National Cemetery and tell my dead friends that they didn't die trying to help the helpless? Tell them they died for whatever BS reason you think we are in Afghanistan. Tell my friends who have mangled bodies, who have sons that will never see there fathers walk, mothers who will never see there sons run again how we are not helping people in Afghanistan and they fought in vein. You are truly an idiot. Do you even know about our mission in Afghanistan? Have you ever done any research on the war in Afghanistan? My unit went to war to help the helpless. Google Sangin, Afghanistan. My unit lost 25 Marines and has 180+ wounded in 7 months ridding this district of the Taliban. A year after we showed our initial presence there, schools reopened, farmers could farm again without the Taliban taking their profits, and citizens could walk the streets again without the fear of having there throats slit. I advise you do some research before you speak. Sgt. William Stacey was a 23 year old Marine. He has been on 5 deployments before he was killed on his 5th one. That man did more with his life by the time he was 23 and spoke wiser words than you ever will. Here is an excerpt from a letter he left for his parents, "My death did not change the world; it may be tough for you to justify its meaning at all. But there is a greater meaning to it. Perhaps I did not change the world. Perhaps there is still injustice in the world. But there will be a child who will live because men left the security they enjoyed in their home country to come to his. And this child will learn in the new schools that have been built. He will walk his streets not worried about whether or not his leader's henchmen are going to come and kidnap him. He will grow into a fine man who will pursue every opportunity his heart could desire. He will have the gift of freedom, which I have enjoyed for so long. If my life buys the safety of a child who will one day change this world, then I know that it was all worth it. You can read the full letter here http://seattletimes.com/html/obituaries/2017398634_staceyobit02m.html. Looks like he fought to make help helpless people, as did I, and every other Marine I served with. We can be your worst enemy or your best friend, but deep down inside we do our job because we all have a sense of idealism and duty to the good of mankind. Don't feel bad for my brothers and me. I don't need or want a thank you from somebody like you. We signed up for this job and we knew what we were getting into. Nobody told me I had to join the Marine Corps and fight, but I wanted to because I felt I could help try and make this world a better place at the ripe age of 18. I bet you think us Marines are dumb because we didn't go to college or because we chose to be infantrymen (grunts). Well sir, I am a 22 year old man and have a lifetime of experience a childish boy like you would never appreciate. Do some research before you try and bash people because you are ignorant and idiotic. I appreciate every wave I catch because I've seen places where something as simple and beautiful as the freedom for me to go to any beach I want to and catch a wave does not except. You need to look in the mirror and reevaluate what kind of man you are. PS: Yup, you probably would hate driving your Prius behind me because I drive a Dodge Ram and I have a sticker that says United States Marine Corps, an American flag sticker, and a sticker that says Nobama. Sue me. I am sorry for the ad hominem attacks, but it was too hard to write this without berating you to the littlest.
I'm telling the authorities on all you guys. I was just using my freedoms of speech and you commies want to take away my rights. otdat' kontsy, comrades.
MattyB, thanks for your service! Without it, we wouldn't be able to be on here spouting out our opinions. Definitely helps put into perspective the amount of freedom we do have and the fact that people like you are willing to die for those freedoms...your a better man than I, sir....there's no way in hell you'd find me out there. I'll have to pick up a copy of your book. On an unrelated note....Pump---->your boy Cruz doesn't have a snowball chance in hell...just sayin'.
Of course he doesn't stand a chance, it's not his turn. This is the order of the next couple of presidents: 1. African American. Check 2. Woman; Hillary 3. Homosexual: ??? 4. Hispanic: Cruz 5. Hispanic Woman: 6. A homosexual, half Hispanic, half black woman. 7. Transgender
Thanks Koki, I appreciate the support. Rideacarr you are a force to be reckoned with. A young, well spoken, intellectually sound, combat veteran Marine. You and your unit went through way more than me. You are a motivator. With intelligent veterans like yourself maybe we can open some eyes and hearts. Your sacrifice humbles me. Hoorah leatherneck.
I respect u as a man and a soldier, but I had to respond to the saddam thing.saddam was bad,no doubt.but the new dictator we installed maloki or whatever his name is,is like hitler x stalin x kim jong to the power of 2500.that man is pure evil.Iraq didn't start out as a place youd want to go,but Iraq now is fuking insane!! theres an average of 4oo people killed everyday there.they say they hate our freedom,no I think they like blowing themselves up for allah.the americans are all out of Iraq, and they still do suicide bombings every other day.they don't report this on mainstream news, but I have a few sources.when I was in school,I learned about the holy war between jews and muslims, and between Shiite muslims and sunni muslims.its just history, its a constant civil war between the muslims. now I don't want to elaborate on Iraq, but I did learn a few things about the war over the years.first off, before we cut the Iraqi military, there was not 1 American life lost.I used to think wtf is an ied,and who decided to come up with it.we took over Iraq in like 2 weeks.there was no enemy to fight.so the best way to stay at war is to create one.the Iraqi army had 1 request, get paid for their time in the service.America said no(meanwhile a few months later we airdropped pallets of 100$ bills that came up to around 6 billion(which is the monthly rate of the war).anyway we disbarred their military, and the very next day ieds started popping up,americans were getting killed.we turned the Iraqi army into insurgents, and now we have a common enemy to fight and stay in. on to other things.when I think of an ideal candidate to be a soldier,I think of tom berenger in platoon.u need to be in the right mindset and be mentally prepared and willing to kill people and not think twice about it.being a soldier is like bigwave surfing.it looks cool, but u have to know ur shyt.when u send random poor kids like me to war,yes I was in the army,13bravo,who aren't mentally fit to kill women and children from a safe distance away,u come home with pshycological problems.its called ptsd, and its very real.some people make great soldiers, they love the rush.others just stand there trying to not get their head blown off. look at chris kyle, the American sniper with more confirmed kills than any other on record.he survived the war, comes home, takes one of his good mates to the range to help him battle his ptsd.his friend heard the shots, and shot and killed kyle and his other friend.it was the mental issues that caused him to harm his friend.chris kyle was quite the slinger,2 gunmen tried to carjack him at a gas station,he accessed the situation, found the weaker one, took his gun and killed both gunmen.when u go through shyt like that and survive, only to be killed by ur own friend,I think that's karma. there will always be a threat.im not saying Iraqis were good people,u can always find the thugs out of the bunch.that's what I call terrorists, thugs, because that's all they are.its just life and its messed up.Taliban will kill a bunch of American soldiers,we respond with drones and miss the target and kill a whole family, leaving 2 boys alive.in return, those 2 boys pledge their allegiance to the Taliban and go after americans for what they did.its a never ending battle,we just try to stay in longer than we should.war is business, and good business at that.if ur in the right industry,a war like Iraq will make u a billionaire. and don't think im one of those anti American conspiracy nuts,I just learned from times.soldiers don't get enough money and respect.look at the private contractors.a soldier will put his life on the line,I was in for 3 years 18 weeks, during that time u come home to 8 grand.a contractor makes 10 grand a day in a warzone.and that's who we should send, private contractors, not American kids getting out of highschool
I remember like 8 yrs ago,i went to the local 9 plumbers and pipefitters during their annual spring hiring they do every year.there was this short stocky Asian lookin kid,he was really a guy lol,in his late 30s.he didn't talk much but people noticed he was a soldier and started asking a bunch of stupid questions u shoud never ask a troop, like how many people did u kill, and the way he responded and his attitude,i thought this guy must of been some soldier.i seen his resume, this guy was in every military invasion since the 80s.i cant remember all the conflcts, but the guy had 22 years in the service, and I could only think of the shyt he been through. he wasn't the kind who would sit there tellin stories and bragging like hes better than everyone.he was cool, calm, and collective and answered all the dumb questions smartly, like did u kill anybody, hell respond its a job.he was getting tired of the service and looking to retire from and become a pipefitter.he was a cool dude, very well spoken and smart, and when I think of a good soldier I think of people like him. anybody can go serve 1 tour, maybe 2,then come out like hey look at me.but when u do it for a few decades and all u stuff u been through and still be sane and look normal, then u must be a real somebody.i served 1 tour and I don't feel special or anything, dont walk around like im a troop,im better.i say this because I have a few friends in the reserves who are complete pussiys and brag to everyone when they never left America.iv been surfing for over 15 years now,i don't walk around like hey im a surfer.only my family and friends know,i don't do things to impress others, but sometimes theres a story to be told
Rachel can 'splain good. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-...-it-part-1-us-thirsty-for-energy-184918083750
Cep, I don't brag about the fact that I can't act normal in most social environments. I have stated my story is cupcake compared to many Marines deployment records. I couldn't swallow it up and move on. So with guidance from older vets, I wrote about my Iraq experience. It helped me. And I've found out that its helping other vets who don't talk about it or physically can't talk about it, acknowledge their own demons, and help family and friends Better understand their messed up military member. I only stated "I saw what the Saddam reign did to the Iraqi people" period. You can lead a horse to water. Your post claims an attack on me based on your own ideas of post Saddam Iraq, nothing I stated or believe. So I am a bit perplexed. Many times I read a text message and think "who the hell does he think he's talking to," when in truth I misinterpreted the tone of the words. I think that applies here. Thanks for your service. I appreciate that regardless of a forum disagreement.
nah man I wasn't trying to insult u or anything,i was just saying the Iraq war didn't turn out the way we hoped.the new regime there is beyond insane.literally.the troops have nothing to do with it,its about congress and the administration at the time.soldiers fight to protect their fellow soldiers, regardless of the mission.at the end of the day its a job and we all try to come back the same way we left.like I said im not speaking out against the troops,I support them 100%,what I don't support is that we have to be the world police.
Hah, see I did it again. Totally misread the intent. I can write but can't read tone for sh!#. No doubt it's a scary place over there.
Matt: The two books I ordered from Amazon came in today as scheduled. No problems. Gave one to my son. Thanks.
Here is a free book by a Marine: Smedley Butler.....explains it all http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/warisaracket.html
In hindsight, we see that the only one who can keep crazy murderous lunatics in line, Is a crazier, more murderous loonie.
&since you're the craziest loony on this forum are you trying to keep everyone else in line now? Or will the space aliens do it for you?
By the way mattyb Thanks for your service. I plan on buying your book. I appreciate your honest, thoughtful and informative posts. It takes guts to fight for your country but it also takes another kind of guts to deal with the pain that so often gets brought home. Then to be able to be open about your struggles and write about it really takes its own special kind of courage as well. Kudos sir, I for one hold you in high esteem! Keep up the good work, you're a credit to the Marine Corps and the country.
Ha. Well ya got me there I guess! I'm not sure how to argue with the circularity of your logic.. &into the rabbithole we go...
