Hey all, time to pony up for a new 5/4/3 hooded full. I'm 6'1" 190, leaning toward the XCEL, and heard they fit a bit bigger. I wear a LT in Oneill, but heard to go with the L in XCEL for some reason...Anyone know if this is true or not?

Why not try on and find out for sure? either way, my experience is Xcels are great suits and run a bit big...i can comfortably wear a medium in xcel but can go large in some other brands.

Yeah, just try one on because you will get mixed reviews from different people. I've got a 4/3 xcel infiniti that I absolutely love and I'm 6'2 180 lbs and it's a LT and it is super tight but fits, but an XL was waaay too big.

Hard to try one on when the nearest shop with suits is 3 hours away. Just a bunch of trendy "surf" shops (pacsun and hollister crap) out here in NoVA and I doubt they even carry rubber and I wouldn't give them any of my money anyway...

I wouldn't get an xcel......4/3 or higher. I have a few xcel suits 2mm, 3/2, and a 4/3. The 2mm and 3/2 are great. Anything above a 3/2 i would stay away from. I have a 4/3 that I only wore 3 times that I am looking to get rid of. The suit is warm and all that but it is heavy and thick. I hate it.....Looking to get rid of it for a body glove Vapor 5/4/3 which believe it or not is lighter than the 4/3 xcel. So that is my experience with xcel....

I would recommend a body glove "Vapor" or a rip curl F-bomb....for the winter.

Just goes to show that different people like different things. I have an xcel 6/5/4 and love it. I think they're the best overall deal in winter suits. 5/4/3 would be the one to buy if you're only surfing in the mid-atlantic region, of course.

In terms of how they fit, mine is a size medium and fits just a tad larger than my other medium suits. It's still smaller than a size large would be, however.

Just to clear things up.....I am not an xcel hater. That's mostly what i have....but I have noticed the difference in weight between my xcel 4/3 and other brands. I think it's ridiculous that a 5/4/3 in other brands weighs less then my 4/3 xcel. Just my experience.....3/2 and under I love em' anything above a 3/2. I have to go elsewhere. Vapor - FTW

I'm a lil' better than 6'0 and about 190, and I wear at L Xcel 5/4/3. I'm not sure about weight, but the suit keeps me warm. The only way to know for sure is to try on a bunch of 'em and see whats best.

stay away from xcel not worth the money i just got a new one in march and its not held up well a few tears in random places , also it fit well in the store but once you get it wet it seems to just to expand i end up having to roll the cuffs of sleeves up so the arms don't fill up with water ,got a couple of body gloves and and they work and fit great

    Xcel suit

I am about 6 foot 188 pounds, and I wear an XL 6/5/4 infinity suit. Fits a tad bit big in certain spots, but super comfy and warm during the winter. Definitely does get a little heavy. Check out the new hyperflex suits coming in at $279.99 for a 6/5/4, can't beat that!

I have a 3/2 xcell full suit, has lasted quite a while. but for thicker suits I always look at Hotline. small company in santa cruz and they make all there suits there. You cant try one on in northern va but thier size chart is pretty acurate and they are great about returns.

i would never buy a suit with out wearing it first, its the most important thing, secondly check all the seams in the suit before buying it! i just bought a new suit and jumped right into it and wore it right after i bought it, after i got out of the water, i realized there was a seam that wasn't finished on the leg, and the shop wouldn't take it back and they wouldn't exchange for another one, and left it for repair for a month and it was never repaired, ended up fixing it myself
