I am seeking out anyone's experience with these style of booties. Positive/negative experience? Been looking at rip curls and xcels, which appear to only come in 3mm or 5mm...which is probably why I haven't seen anyone wearing them this winter.

Also most of the models appear to not have that pull loop at the back of the ankle...which can be useful.

they're nice booties, very supple & comfortable & go on & off very easily, no need for the pull strap on the heel. i have rip curl's version in both 3 & 5 mil...but they are NOT as warm as i'd hoped. the top of the 5 mil is cut very short, so there's not a lot of overlap w/ the leg of the suit. i've found that it gets pushed or rolled up easily & the boot fills w/ water. the 3 mils seem very thin, more like a 2 mil than a 3.
maybe that's just an issue w/ rip curl's version & one o the other brands did it better, but i wouldn't buy them again. love the concept, not a fan of the execution.

For whatever it's worth, I have the rip curl gloves and have worn them about 5 times. They are already delaminating on one of the fingers at a seam. My buddy has the o'neill ones and they seem to have a better/thicker coating on them. I would assume this carries over to their booties as well.

At least the rip curl ones have a 1 yr warranty, so I'll essentially have a new pair of gloves every year now

Got a pair of the RipCurl 3 MM when they first came out two years ago. They are good, almost like barefoot. The newer versions (2013) have a fleece-like lining, and may be warmer. Wear mine here in the Northeast from early Spring until maybe May, then again October- November. They do go on and off easy, and you can turn them inside out to dry (not sure about the new fleece version)
