Smoking and curing pork/duck/beef. Running. Cars. Pretending I can play guitar. Brewing beer. That all takes up most of my free time.

the "honey do" list. so that when swell comes, i don't have to beg or plead to go surf (not that i'd really have to anyhow, she's understanding like that, but it makes for a happier wife if i'm not leaving projects half completed to go surf my brains out).
No doubt. There is always more that can be done, but when you see that swell in the forecast, you better make sure your ducks are in a row at home. Solid advice. As a guy that's been married a few years now and has a 2.5 year old, those are words to live by. I feel like I still get the hawk eye sometimes, even when I forewarn her a day or two in advance. but hey, in my mind, since I used to surf everyday and she had to work around my surfing schedule, life today is the polar opposite. Im lucky to get waves once a week. If there is a serious swell even, all bets are off though. Call out of work and the whole 9.
Play guitar with a band, golf, shoot bows, taekwondo, scout master for my son's pack, run drugs and guns for the cartel you know the usual gangsta sh!t.
With a family, it's often a balancing act. I agree with telling wifey in advance if you're thinking about going out. She may have made, or in the process of making, plans that involve the both of you. Prior to surfing, I was a relatively well-balanced person and had a number of different interests: Filipino martial arts, old time banjo, working out/lifting weights at the gym 4 times a week, reading good books, getting into Zen a bit, and completing my MBA. Used to do more work around the house as well. Now I'm an addicted fool: thinking about surfing all the time; repeatedly checking weather and surf forecasts, reports, and web cams; hanging out at this Forum before hitting the rack... You know the drill. PJB even got me listening to Led Zeppelin which led to Black Sabbath and other 70s heavy metal music. Kinda crazy. My wife and kids might be worried about me in that regard.
used to be that work was my hobby when I wasn't surfing or thing about surfing. I hope this year is better than last one, or work will be mt only focus again.
