I was watching the movie on Friday, and the impossible happened. I actually got tired and bored of watching surfers pull 360's and backflips over and over and over again. Does anyone else agree with me, i know most of you won't
Totally agree with you... That's why the surf vids I watch now usually have a storyline behind it. ie: the Drive Thru's, One California Day, etc.
I hear ya on the fact if the film is showin repeat tricks throughout...But all kill no fill is the way to go; or at least give you the option for an all kill no fill like Steele gives you in Camp 2..I wanna see them surf not hear about their ridiculous B/S and nonsense..
I agree. Insane footage never gets old, but there is always a certain amount of filler... The vids with some sort of storyline is what does it for me now a days.
stranger than fiction does have a story line....but i know what you mean and i still love it. the moonshine movies are my favorite such as shelter, thicker than water, a brokedown melody, and i saw the premier of one track mind and i loved that one. also the drive thurs.
A movie doesn't need to have a story or filler to be good, but the key for me at least is variety. If variety comes in the form of filler, it has to be good. I don't know if anyone has seen loose change, or the first campaign, but taylor steele has a tendency to do these cheesy skits that are kind of goofy and out of place. I like the filler stuff in the ...lost videos, and the jack johnson style videos. The ...lost stuff is kinda like jackass but it really keeps up with the intense nature of the film, and soundtracks, so it works in that sense. Also, the ...lost videos always have such a good variety of waves. The jack johnson/moonshine videos always have really cool glimpses into surfers lives and philosophies, not to mention the variety of waves(or the variety of boards) used in the films. I just recently stumbled on this trailer for a new film that looks epic. It's mostly log footage but they throw in some retro fish and even an alaia. I did some research and it looks like the guy making it is from NY which is pretty sick to so an east coaster making such a nice looking flick. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv3rfiq9uIY
Any one of the "My Eyes Wont Dry" is enough of a storyline for me! Shack Therapy is another favorite. I would rather watch barrels, carves, floaters, and more barrels than seeing air after air. Dont get me wrong, airs are sick but tuberiding is the name of the game!
ya just add water is pretty sick its like a documentary on his whole life, good surfing and awesome soundtrack.... anyone know when the movie picaresque is coming out? zansurf posted a link to the trailer earlier in this thread and it looks really good
i know what you mean. Some videos do need a little more storyline to them and Clay Marzo just add water was sick ________ VAPOR GENIE
Just add water is really good. Stranger than Fiction sucked, yes, the surfing is good and all but they are surfers, not actors... the idea of the whole Taylor Steele skit in every movie he does is retarded... i'm personally a fan of the lost videos... mainly because they have the "i don't give a f*ck what you think" attitude, and every shot isn't a perfect wave in INDO, they have shots from jersey to florida to texas. just my .01 (.02 with tax)
the Decline is really good, so is What's really goin on... 5'5" x 19 1/4" redux looks insane!... can't wait for that to come out.
the new clay marzo flick blows. its boring as hell and clay marzo lacks a personalty, even if he does have that disease. Stranger than fiction is the best flick of 2008 by far.
Globe's New Emissions of Light and Sound has quickly become one of the top 3 surf movies on my favorites list. The soundtrack is killer and the surfing from the Hobgoods, Taj and Yadin Nichol speaks for itself. Do yourself a favor and buy the DVD! Also, as an added bonus, order it from Globe's Website, you will get a free New Emissions of Light and Sound t-shirt! Go Get It Already!
