are those rocks or kelp in the foreground? is she falling onto her board there? wtf is actually going on in that pic?!
It's a leash less attempt at a whitewash, chop hop,180,duck dive, only half way through or like 90% of the 180 complete?
I believe its at Margaret River and thats a woman surfer falling onto the "surgeons table" the very shallow inside section of the main break. If you watched the mens contest they were ending literally on this section and riding over dry reef.
It's at Bells as bungalow mentioned. It happened yesterday and certainly looked to be soft, at least I hope so. If that was the reef I would not want to see the after effect.
Looks like it was all just kelp. You can see it moving to the bottom left. I can't be 100% but she wasn't bleeding afterward and there was no board damage. I think that was just a classic kelp incident. The photo makes it look much cooler.
That looked nothing like just kelp to me. Looked like kelp covered rocks. Watch the video in slomo when she falls she doesn't sink she sits right on top.
No, actually she plucked her left front fin right out of the box and didn't realize it til she got back on the ski.
She also took a board to the head earlier during a free surf I think. It's in the video and you can see her black eye during the interview.
Definitely rock under that greenery fellas. Look how the water draws around it, plus she mentions the rock at some point. She's lucky she kept her teeth. Must have been a hole right behind the section that took out her fin. Talk about a rattling heat
Yeah, rewatched it, still without audio. Looks like a mix of kelp, rocks and sand in about 1 foot of water. I guess she tried to zig when the reef section zagged. Hopefully her face and hands landed in sand. Looks like slick, slab california style reef at least. With that being said, that is no way to bail on a board when it hit her in the face. That is just silly to butterknife your board that deep inverted and then come up for air. What comes up, must come down.
Sorry she got hit in the face. Exit strategy I'm still perfecting. Question if I can bust through the center of a breaking lip while riding a close out, then why not the whitewash?.
