So, I'm getting a long board! The wave storm to be exact, thanks everybody for helping me. I knew I was making a bad decision with the short board but you guys pushed me to turn back before I was stuck with that short board.

Good move, you'll have much more fun. When you want to move on go to a fish or some other wide, small wave shape with extra volume.

There is supposed to be good small waves ( knee to thigh high and clean) this Saturday. Great for learning to stand up and glide, maybe do a turn after a few waves. I suggest first checking Dog Beach behind the Nomad Surf Shop, and if it is flat, go up to Juno Beach. Go to the Juno Pier and go north about a 1/4 mile or so. It should be spread out enough so you don't get in anyone's way. If it is still too crowded, keep going north a few hundred yards or so. You will find a slot. There should be fun waves.

Does anyone appreciate how good of a young Jedi the OP is here? I mean, he didn't even say hello when introducing himself, refrained from getting argumentative and stubborn I what he though he wanted/needed, and actually took the logical advice like it was two tablespoons of penicillin.

We should keep this braddah around! Imagine the phenom he could emerge as with continued guidance. SI could have Swamis on each coast.

Good choice. Just don't buy it from one of the jerks selling 'em for $150 on craigslist. People like to rag on Wavestorms and soft tops but for a beginner you can't beat it. Even after you move on to a real board you'll want to keep it around. Somebody else you know may want to learn one day. They are great for goofing around on the small days we get more often than not down here and summer is on the way. My friend and I call them the session saver because we're catching waves on them when others are sitting on the beach with their "real" boards. Rather be catching small waves on a foamie than none at all.

Make sure you learn up on your surf etiquette. Be respectful of others and stay out of the way while learning. Also, listen to sisurfdogg. He knows this coast well and will steer you right.

Great move on switching out and getting the wavestorm. I learned to surf in the 80's when everybody was on thrusters and really, really regret not starting on a bigger board from the get go. And I agree on the advice to keep the soft top around. I've been surfing 25 years and bought one for my kids at a garage sale. It's insane how fun it is to take that thing out in the summer and try all sorts of stuff I would never try on a regular board.

You guys remember that 80's movie where the girl dresses up like a dude and goes to high school? It's called "Just one of the Guys". I'm not sure why, but when Nautical Natalie made her announcement it reminded me of about ten different scenes in that movie.

Here's a random clip to help jog your memory:

Anyway, welcome to SI, Natalie. Keep us posted on your progress, and please don't ever leave.
