Piggies are all set up to bust some heads. Closing the interstate coming into town. Only allowing access by way of side streets. THEY say it's to allow emergency vehicles in an out. Betcha they break out the armor. It would be "funny" if the malcontents and ne'er do wells changed venue. Like down at Sandbridge where they could shut down the only 2 roads in. Back in 1976, July 4, I was on top of the Kona Kai hotel at a "party". The bars shut down and everyone piled into the streets ignoring the suggestion to disperse. A bunch of piggies in helmets and umpire vests march into the middle of the crowd, got in a huddle for a few seconds, then commenced to break some skulls. Seemed like the puercos instructional movie on crowd control was made in Birmingham in the '60's. What a hoot when the citizenry fought back. guys at the party broke some concrete urns and was pelting all down below. We slipped out the back and to the ocean for quick retreat.
Unless the forecast for Sunday improves a bit, there's nuthin' much happenin' surf-wise in VB this weekend - beginning tomorrow.
One of my friend's sister works for COVB and word in her office is that all the rooms out by Town Center are booked up for this weekend, and that the college weekend schitt will be taking place there. Who knows. Dos is right, supposed to be flat, so I see no reason to go to the ocean front anyway.
I'd bet they'll be having DUI checkpoints on Norfolk Ave and Gen. Booth Blvd. too. I've got to show my papers at least once a month, and more in the summer, when driving home after dark. For any locals driving around Shadowlawn, watch out back in the neighborhood too. There's been a lot of petty crime in the are and the residents have started barking to the police for more patrols. I suspect they train the newbie gestapo cops at the Norfolk Ave DUI chokepoint since they often set it up in the early evening hours. Then, at least I hope, they move to a more useful location like the start of the interstate where the drunks will steering 2 ton hunks of metal at 55mph+ Back when they had Greekfest (black college beach week) in the 80's there were plenty of parties down in Sandbridge. It used to be a blast crashing their parties and being the only 2-3 token white dudes there. You haven't lived til you've been dancing to rap on the kitchen counter diving into trash cans full of ice water, Tuborg and Schlitz. All while the rest of the 1-200+ bros are waving their hands in the air like they just don't care. I'd probably get shot today.
It was damned concaved out there today. Lat the festivities begin. I'll be at Sandbridge tomorrow AM piping in a walk in cooler. I hope they don't change venue.
Apparently no dreaded college kid violence and rioting at the VB Oceanfront yesterday/last night. Looks flat out there and off Croatan again this morning. Waiting for lower tide. But the longer I wait. the more likely I'll get sucked into the "honey-do" list.
