I have nothing against surf photogs who just take good photos for the world to see but what I don't like are the ones that charge 650$ for a 12inch picture.it seems where I live in nj,there are more photogs than kooks on a summer day in spring lake/bmar.heres a little vid I like to share that sees how I see modern day surf photogs corey lopez schooling a modern day photog,I wouldn't be surprised if this photog now works for surfer mag,but that's what happens
On a similar topic. . . There should one big site dedicated to surf pics you snap of random guys at the beach. Who want's to start a business!? I feel like there are tons of pictures of each of us on the interwebs somewhere. I'd gladly pay $650 for a 12" portrait of myself I could hang above my fireplace.
They do a lot of that in CA. Some guys are cooler than others, but the only time you usually get free ones are if they submit them to local media or websites. I've gotten a few freebees that way, but most guys in CA, you just gotta get their card after the session and check their website the next day, and unless you want a giant watermark over your face, you will pay the money. Not $650, but I have no problem shelling out 20 bucks for a guy who is out there trying to stay active. And no offense to my lovely wife, I have gotten way better photos from the pros than from having someone stand on the beach and try and do it. That never seems to work... Its a bad feeling though, when you get some of the sickest waves ever and notice someone on the beach with a video camera or something, and before you get out they are gone... Makes you wonder where that stuff all ended up. I love the photogs though. They are worth paying the money to for sure. Especially the guys in the water with the housings. They deserve some cash for being out there in the impact zone trying to make you and your friends look good.
Just saw a topic related to this posted by a local "pro" photog pissed that amateurs were taking his angles, etc. guy was ranting on Instagram about his livlihood beig consumed by all the current interest. Wonder what the legitimacy is with this issue...as I've paid a couple guys a few bucks for shots of me when I was able to talk to them....some of them just float them to me. Regardless, for a solid session and a Ron of shots I'd pay for it. Regardless, I'm with Zachary on this issue...I'd pay for some shots or even a session... Uin regards to a webisite...a number of years ago localswell seemed to consistently be the site to have shots by amateur photons before it shut down...
so true lol, theres a lot of people out there that just snap at whoevers up,then theres the surfarazzi that show up at the spots the pros go to and there will be 4 water photogs,30 guys on the beach with cameras, dudes on jetskis lol.
