yup, this. gotta rebuild the brownie points w/ the wife after this last run of swell...ran it pretty dry. get caught back up w/ the "honey do" list, get some quality workouts in (run, paddle, swim...anything to keep the heart/lungs/paddling muscles ready to go), skate a bit...the waves'll be back. we're not done yet, not by a longshot, i think. if i recall correctly, may 2013 was pretty consistently fun/good.

+1 on that. May is usually a fantastic month. Really good medium period 10 sec stuff in May. Late season nor'easter still possible. The last hurrah before the relative summer flatness. It's usually the last head high + swells until the beginning of sept.(and sept big swells are usually long period ground swell stuff)

Of course that's just the average. Any month in the year can be bad. I'm really hoping this isn't a "fluke May" that's flat. That would really suck.

Last year we had that freak swell in mid-late june. Threw everybody off. It was the last barrel I'd see till fall.

The last barrel? lol Thigh high can barrel lol
Yeah, that early season tropical storm Andrea if I remember correctly. Winds weren't that great up here for that if I remember correctly. Cross shore. Of course that's 1 day out of 90 and a fluke at that! You do never know though! Anything can happen. You could have an overhead day in July....how sweet would that be. A guy can dream.

RI has been full of himself lately...

There will be waves this summer. We had a flat spell I. November and I have surfed a lot this winter. No real winter flat spells for me. I predict onshore windswell a lot this summer. At least it's surf able...

Yeah thigh high can barrel if you forgot to stand up. Listen, it's cool if you boogie. Heck, you can even hang out with other boogie boarders. Just don't take pictures with them and post it all over Instagram and please don't bring them to surf...it's embarrassing.

I'll post whatever the hell I want.

Another reason I bodyboard. Waist high is overhead. Waves feel so much bigger and you can get deeper. You feel part of the wave. Enough said. How often do you really get shacked if you're 6 feet tall in the northeast without bending in half or doing a deep squat? Once a month if you're lucky. Maybe twice. Some months not at all. So it averags out to maybe 1-2 times a month if you're lucky. And then not at all almost the whole summer? You'd need a barreling 7-8 foot wave that's not closing out with good winds to stand up straight and get shacked deep on a surfboard. Rare around these parts. A Bodyboard is much better suited to the ec

Why are we back talking about this b.s.? Ride whatever the hell you want. Why do I keep coming back to this forum. It's like crack. I come for the forecast, not this, but end up posting here.

Water is still in mid 40s here. Winter suit/hood still required.

it keeps you warmer than a 3/2, but not as warm as a 5/4...

my lifelong financial situation has forced me to skip the 4/3 for the past 13 years.... Typically I'm in the 3/2 by now, this year is a difficult transition

4/3 rocks ass here. You can get at least 4 or 5 months worth of surf here in Jerz.

when i worked at a surf shop, i always said that if you were only going to have 2 suits, it was a 5/4 & 3/2. a 4/3 is definitely nice to have, but you can surf year-round w/out it. i love my 4/3 & get a lot of use out of it, but it's certainly not needed.

And this spring has been just perfect for the 4/3 for like the last 10 times I surfed - basically the last month on Delmarva. Water in the mid 40s to low 50s, warm air temps and light winds. Would have been too hot in the 5/4 and freezing in the 3/2. I feel like I've gotten so damn picky as I get older....now feel like I cant be happy without a different wetsuit for every 7 degree water temp change. Weird.
