I was 14 and got a job as a "dishwasher" at the local mom and pop restaurant a few nights after school. Lasted about a month before I quit there.... Done a lot of other odd jobs at a young age, but let me tell you this. Someone else said it... Bussing Tables or funning food. It has to be the right place, but I have managed many restaurants before and at some of my prime locations, I had 16 year old bussers walking with $150 in cash every night for about 4 hours of work. Some bussing jobs suck and the money isn't great, but people who have never been in the industry don't really understand how much money can be made in it. So many people look down on service industry staff members, like ohh you poor thing, honey you are waiting tables, meanwhile these people are making $50 an hour for a half day of work in a lot of places.... So, if you can find a busy, reputably restaurant, do that. Cause you can find a job that may be a little more FUN, but if it pays peanuts, whats the point? I could go teach surf camps all year, but I wouldn't be able to afford my mortgage. And restaurants are fun places man. for sure. So, if I was a young buck again, I would maximize my income so I had money to play around with, buy surfboards and have WAY more money than my friends did that were lifeguarding.
I mowed grass when I was little and started to ref youth soccer at 14, also washed dished and worked up to line cook. Got to do some surf lessons during the summer too. I'm only 20 now but what I've learned is to take any job that will pay you, work your butt off no matter what you're doing, and don't complain(I still need to work on this one). Any job is better than no job.
bro if greeks called you the best dishwasher ever, you musta have been something I worked in surf shops,(good for pulling trim) cut lawns (learning Spanish), bussed tables (learning Spanish), pumped gas on boat docks(outdoors and semi relaxing)..... but my fave was when I was 20, taking 14-15 y.o. kids backpacking. Very simple objective, get to campsite in time to cook before dark. everyone was always on board, however It got dicey when we had coed trips, teenagers are like bunnies Is slangin rocks a job?
Go for the tip jobs. It's nice having greenbacks in your pocket. While not always as lucrative as a waiter or bartender valets and bell hops pull in a fair bit of cash.
+1.... I worked at a bag drop on a golf course summer of my senior year in high school. I was 17 making $100.00 cash a day easy and getting paid 8 dollars an hour, and all the free golf I could play. Just get the bag out of the trunk and put it on a cart, make bank.
One of the highest paying no skill jobs I ever had was delivering pizza in middletown nj. Late eighties working 6 hours, 5 nights a week took home $200 to $300 per night cash. I had a box that I would keep the cash in until it could go in the bank, after a week or more it was full with singles, fives, tens, twenties and a few fifties and hundreds. Friggin awesome.
If you want to maximize your water time and stay in school, bussing tables is the way. You will walk out with cash in your pocket each night, you will be fed (maybe not well fed, but fed), and there are lots of girls that you will get to meet at work. It's not very hard work ( you said you are a lazy teen), and if you fit in with a good place, you can make lots of cash as a waiter when you get older. The only draw back is you have to work weekend nights, but if your curfew is not too early , you can still have fun after work.
First job was at an icecream shop over the summer. Then I went to dish dragon during the school year and realized I HATED cleaning plates and getting paid minimum wage. Now I've been bussing at a few different restaurants and realized that's where the money's at. Bussing is easy and if you work at a nice restaurant you'll be making bank.
Thanks To everybody who responded! All of the advice/References have helped a bunch. I'm definitely considering the golf ideas, as well as any tipping job. And yeah P.S. the Lazy Teen thing was sorta an ironic joke. I'm actually a hard worker, just not always the most energetic after 8 hours of school.... Anyways, Thanks Again!
my first job I was a cartboy for shoprite.it was pretty cool at the time, walk around the parking lot listening to my cassette player lol, nobody bothered me it was ok for the time being.then when I turned 18 I had a ironworker structural steel type of job.dont really know what to call it because every month was different.climbing up a 24ft ladder with a 250lb sack of nuts and bolts, impact wrench, etc.I enjoyed it but it was terrifying, thought id die any day having a beam drop on me.i was never into office work,i would pass out if I wasn't constantly moving, plus it keeps u in shape.iv always been a hands on kinda person.its funny when we get a solid swell and everyones complaining of noodle arms.when I was younger I was an insomniac, meaning I couldn't ever fall asleep.after a few days on the job lifting metal and banging shyt into place,i can fall asleep in 2 minutes after I lay down
