Good answer bro. I feel all that. Haha no doubt bud. That's why some cats on here think I am a Carver rep. I honestly wouldn't have the time or the need to bring on additional formal employment. I'm so stoked on it because of how damn good it is and how it's not otherwise available. I'm blown away that more people aren't on this train. It's not like anyone who sees one in proper action (skater, surfer, or neither) isn't bewildered by the mystifying sight. Why not get the hell on one then?
bar the "keep it simple & stop thinking so much" bit, this is probably the best advice you've received on here so far, mike. you seem like a guy who is pretty "with it" athletically on dry land, but those are usually the sort who get into a lot of trouble in the water. if you don't already know how, learn to swim. if nothing else, it'll help your paddling. & focus on technique at first, not speed. correct body mechanics go a long way.
Apply your knowledge to making/fixing your boards. Then you can construct your own boards and become a true follower of the movement. Making your own instrument to play is cool. I'm sure you've built custom firearms. Can be fun and most importantly, you will appreciate it, and will do your part to help regulate the breaks once you have experience. Caring about what you created will make you appreciate the sanctity of the movement.
Love building stuff. Cars, guns, etc. Never done any craftwork of this sort, kinda look at it like wood working? Seems fun.
Fiberglass and resin. I find it to be similar to woodworking in many ways. I envision surfboards as Aqua-Corvettes.
I have a full wood shop and metal shop at my disposal. Similar tools? The wood shop has more millwork tools than I know what to do with, but I never really play around in there. It's 99% cars and guns for me. If it's sanders and whatnot, I'm flush with all that stuff.
You should really read some of the threads on wooden board construction in the archives. Very informative, and also entertaining. Chuck, Roy, and the rest of the "Angry Beaver Clan" would love to have a new acolyte. (I am a product of the Florida public school system - I thought I'd use at least one fancy word just to show we are semi-literate here in the dirty souff).
what the **** are you doing on a forum. A wood and metal shop would be my ultimate addiction (aside from water and wilderness time of course). Im in the process of converting a rotted out old barn into a shop with woodworking and shaping bays. slow process when you are relying on your landlord to finance the project
It's only been since Saturday. I have already edged and mowed the lawn. The mower wouldn't even start yesterday, it had been so long. Time for a paddle/run/swim. And this forum has gone to crap.
