There were still waves Sunday morning at the lower tide if you like being drunk still. Another reason to stay away from this southerner
I'm out in San Fran for 2 months for work. Got a place right on OB. Waves. Every. Day. Its onshore a lot this time of year, though. But I feel your pain, fellas. I got lucky this time round. Still finding time on the carver even with the waves. Steep out here.
Bro you ain't kidding about the steep. Even on the streets that aren't Mt. Everest like lower Broadway are still too pitched. Seattle is so much better in this regard. Still, there are great streets to be found. South winds still pumping or what? They were strong there in February when I was there. Hopefully the sun has been out for you. Enjoy bud, glad you're in a sick spot for a bit. OB is gnarly!
Got a little choppy and disorganized yesterday PM with the wind, but nothing ride-able. SEALS weren't out doing their thing like the day before. Barely a ripple this morning. Little relief in sight. Water temp may have just gotten up to 60. Mid 80 air temps predicted for today. I feel lucky to have squeezed in two unremarkable sessions last Friday - right before this flat spell hit. Haven't been out since. Maybe get out today during lunch and work on paddling. Use it or lose it. Base pool closed for repairs, ETR unknown, so no lap swimming here. Been getting in more running lately.
Looks like 1st street is working about thigh high...time to break out the log and get some this afternoon while it's working
Compelling evidence of such fantasticness typically involves a picture of at least one wave. Not saying the back of your head/your hooded suit aren't fantastic, but much less compelling.
That's what i'm talking about! I already got my hotel booked and ready to go for that weekend, roll of the dice I know, but i'm a betting man, so I aint scurrred!
It was a fun day for sure man, was a bit of a surprise to as it was a bit under-called, and very few people out.
Those are the best! It's almost like when you think you're just getting an HJ and end up with a BJ to completion...
Many a year I have gotten good surf on the Space Coast for Memorial Day weekend. It's a dice roll, but you'll probably score. The HJ to BJ, who knows? I heard under the Cocoa Pier is the best bet.
That's about what I found at Dam Neck around lunchtime today. A few were a little higher. It was a nice surprise. Had thought I was just going to be paddling. Beautiful weather too. It was tough having to leave and go back to work.
Bro I don't drink much but I'm def no stranger to the "still haven't slept" DP with still flammable breath. Feels great in June through August. Don't care if it's 1-footers. Probably better that way for safety. Love how mad I feel at people going for runs on the beach thinking how their day just started and my yesterday is just about to come to a close. Then I realize I'm charging after another legendary night and it's all good in da hood.
That's awesome! I keep reading your posts about being stationed at Dam Neck and am extremely jealous. I work for the DOD as a civilian as well, but am stationed in Norfolk. I love my job, but reading how you get to paddle out at lunch makes me want to transfer to the Navy...
I had been looking for another, higher paying job elsewhere - even considered DC to get my "high three" before retiring. Not so much anymore since I started surfing. The job itself isn't the greatest; but all things considered, and being practically on the beach, I have it pretty good here. Won't find that at most places or with most jobs. What gets me is so many people who work in my building at Dam Neck rarely go over to the beach. Anyway, it looks like almost another week of the same thing is in the forecast for here. Brought my larger board in to work again today, but there was absolutely nothing out there.
If it was a year in DC to hit your mark it might be worth it. Other than that, not worth it IMHO. Air here is massively bad (polluted), you're 2.5 - 3 hours from raggedy surf, 6 hrs from the OBX & the people here are egotistical, self-inflated douchatelles. Also, 'spensive, wow, it is very expensive to live in metro DC.
