http://www.superbranded.com/unit#.U3Z7jvn0Ck9 Been checking out this board lately. I've had the CI gravy for the past 2 years and it has been my go-to everyday board. I've heard some good things about Super surfboards so I looked at this board and I also saw it in the Surfing Mag Summer board catalog. The Unit seemed to be the best choice out of all as of now and wanted to hear opinions or experiences on this board. Any replies appreciated!
the only advice u usually get here is go local and how they shaped their giant log of a float their old ass down the river they must be able to make the perfect cutting edge board for you. super from what I've heard doesn't add fluff like other brands seem to do everything is pretty streamlined stock whereas if you look at like lost the dims are not usually congruent w what the pros are riding. you can always go custom w them too though but any of them come with a price though ~600-700 for a poly board. i got a used neck beard on craigs and it is awesome. i would def recommend that board for sure or the dd. it would be very similar idea to the unit. short and wide. i would be pretty comfortable with relying on pumping to get speed with a board like that bc you have to make it all yourself if you size it right unless the waves are cooking but when you get it going it flies. again like 700 for a poly though new but you can scour craigs or shop used racks they pop up or similar boards. honestly i think thats the way to go w poly unless you custom order something you are pretty set on bc otherwise you are sinking too much into a board that isn't going to last you that long and it may not be what you want then good luck getting anywhere near what you paid for it. if you go used you can flip it over on craigs if you don't like it. also i have looked a lot into coil recently from advice of ppl here and they have some really nice shapes and look really cutting edge and you can get a custom fit board for like 600 thats not poly and not a pos epoxy one that will actually stand the test of time. ppl will flack on epoxy a lot bc of the float and feel but they prob only tried a surf tech. I've had several epoxys: js parabolic(great flex and good durability esp on rails deck pressured a little), resin 8's original epoxy(unbreakable and really good feel), surf tech gen 1 (stay away from any of these boards they blow horrible float same with like board works and anything that looks like that), george wilson shaper from sc (standard shaper epoxy not much more durable than poly honestly prob same as ci would be), firewire(good flex very floaty for the size def size down). coil seems like a really well made epoxy board and like you'd only benefit from the durability and it might add some nice flex. I'm prob going to order a custom within the next few weeks and see though. the wider board and the m80 look pretty cool. m80 would be more like the unit prob. all those companies have similar type board to that now though so i wouldn't exactly pin it to a company more a board style and find a good priced used one in good shape. make sure it is the size you think you'd want to don't jump at something bc its right board but way too big. those boards surf really short usually. i surf a 5'4" neck beard at 5'10" and 145lbs. if its a surf shop you can try asking their opinion. you have to make sure you are truthful about your ability too bc otherwise you may have a steep learning curve and may never be able to get the most out of it. if you aren't really comfortable with pumping and basic maneuvering something even wider like a firewire baked potato or some of the short fat lost boards or like a roberts mush machine something like that might prove better just make sure its still pretty short. i wouldn't size it ideally though bc with those ones you'd wind up with like a 4'10 board. depending on height and weight something like that in like a 5'4 range depending on the board if you were to ideally be riding like a 5'4-5'6 neck beard/dd/etc would help tremendously to build your comfort with pumping and turning esp in mushy ec waves bc you wouldn't bog the rail. plus you'd be able to surf more easily in anything this area throws at you. i dunno your exp level so i just kinda threw out everything advice wise i could think of w boards to think about. let me know if you have any questions
