..being cleaned up near L jetty as we speak. One source said the recent algae bloom is to blame. The birds are out in full effect, I cant help but wonder what else is scavenging around as I'll be floatin around there all day tomorrow.

Aren't there a lot of issues with sewage and stuff in that river? I thought I remember hearing at one point that raw sewage was being pumped into the river because the treatment center couldn't keep up with the amount.

Couple things... Schools of bunker can get so thick that they deplete their own oxygen and create a die-off situation. Algae blooms don't deplete oxygen... they add to it. It's when the algae die and decompose that oxygen is depleted, by the waste from the decomposers. Unless it was some other kind of bloom... like toxic algae or bacteria... that can cause a fish kill.

Different types of fish and sea life can tolerate lower levels of oxygen and some can't.

I just got out of the water and was fairly close to shark river- didn't see any.

I talked to an older well know freind fisherman/capt in the area- he said that this is fairly 'normal' and that it had happened in the past- it's just the media pumping it. There is no worrys about contamination ect

Btw I hope you bros got it- this morning was fun! Plus easier paddle then it appeared!

BELMAR NJ was going off as usual. It's a little hard to see from the road with all the new sand on the beach but it didn't effect the waves!

Heard a commercial fishing vessel had to dump their catch due to heavy seas/too much weight on board. Makes sense seeing that it was only one species of fish.

Okay, I need to come clean here. I went surfing there yesterday, and I farted in the middle of a huge bunker school. About 1 minute later they were all dead. Sorry.

Don't know if this is applicable but there were 14 dead rays clumped together in long branch shore break today. No doubt they gut sucked up and pummeled to death in the replenishment strainer cage. F@#$ those replenishment dudes.

This was just one pile. They were all along Lb by certain jetties. Messed up, and first guess is replenishment. Other random fish too.
