I got a new board and like a dumby I had the storm door hit it this weekend. It has a "spider " crack in it. A little rough but nothing chipped or anything of the sorts. How do I fix it? Sun cure and just sand it down till the area is smooth? Or is it even needed to fix? thanks
hard to tell without seeing it and feeling it, and I am still sort of new to this myself, but I have done a fair amount of ding repair on a few boards I have. My philosophy and practice is the old .. "a stitch in time saves nine" when it comes to my boards. If you can mix up a little resin and "paint" over the area and then smooth it out, sand it you would prevent water seeping in etc down the road. If you push on the area and it gives, you may want to gut a piece out, then treat it like a ding repair. Using the ding repair kits (regular or sun cure), you can use the plastic sheeting some included to tape down over the tacky repair mix to make a smooth fix that takes less sanding (or maybe none). Either way, watch it and if you are in real doubt let a pro look at it. Also- I am told any damage on the rails needs closer attention as it creates a weak spot for a board to snap- yikes! The first ding repair I did was a little scary, but now I sort of like doing it...Good Luck
