So a few times a week I watch the 'so pitted' dude b/c that sh!t still cracks me up. Upon today's 'so pitted' google search this came up in the images. I don't think it's photoshopped. Either way, had to share...
Try taking the YouTube of the So Pitted Remix and extracting the audio then burning it on a disc into a playlist. It's so good for bumping while riding to the break, and just around town. The song sticks in your head bro. You can get the best barrells ever dude.
Definitely seen my share of sea kayakers, but never with that much control on a wave...maybe a few seconds of face time, never thought they could get pitted like that. Emass I just might have to do that.
Its possible, totally possible. I have done it. You paddle in and throw all your weight on the rail and dig the paddle in. Plus the wave has to be right. Its a great feeling.
there was a guy around my home break for a number of years who absolutely ripped on a kayak...i heard from someone else that he'd been a pretty good surfer, but he switched over to it after a car accident left him partially disabled, he walked w/ crutches & his back was all jacked. dude charged anything, no matter what & he handled the thing deftly. sadly, after not seeing him for a while, i learned he'd committed suicide a couple years back. couldn't tame the demons.
Njsurfer42 thats sad. Forgot to mention I knocked my two front teeth out kayaking. I caught a wave too early and rolled her. I popped up from under mouth open for air and the yak hit me right in my two front teeth nothing else. Sheered them in half now I have two caps. Whoops.
^^^That's what I'd be worried about. Either way, dudes pulling it off, so it's cool in my book. Gotta be an interesting perspective of the wave from there. Sad about that guy...I'd imagine EC beachbreaks with any swell have gotta be tricky to kayak surf.
There used to be a guy around here who had a prostetic leg who would charge with the yak on the big days. I havent seen him in a while but then again it hasnt been big in a while. A long while
I know exactly who you are talking about, he was really skilled and maintained control and had good etiquette and got good ones. Also, likely you and I have likely surfed together in the past
My wife has a fiberglass, hollow wave ski (like magnum PI) where you sit on top and put your feet in straps in front. It has a finbox underneath and you can get totally pitted. My buddy who sold it to her had a new one, so I talked him into selling it to her. He could almost go upside down on that thing in a good wave. I'm kind of scairt to take it out in the good stuff. I'll stick to standing up and crouching into a barrel. One time I took my ocean kayak out in waist high waves, pearled it, and it flew up real high and hit me on the head and almost knocked me out cold. Enough! I've seen this one guy who goes out at big perfect Reef Road (like Halloween Swell big) on a real long, narrow kayak where you have cables and foot peddles to control the rudder. Totally psycho. If he ate it he would have disitergrated the craft. Nothin left but fiberglass splinters. But he made every outside bomb he attempted. Very impressive.
I would imagine they would need alot of flip in the nose to stick drops like that wave, or just really fast paddling skills.
we talk a lot of crap about spongers and surfers, and supers, but I imagine wiping out on a kayak is definitely the worst situation u can put urself in.I don't like the feeling of not having your legs free,my legs do all the work,I wouldn't want to be looking at a 10footer sitting down.I seen a kayaker get caught inside in lbi many years ago.it was the first and only time I ever seen a kayak,I was thinking whats he doing in the ocean wth it.??I say kayakers get the pass
