more today. 2ft + gutless which good cause i'm tired. warm water, guys trunking, me warm in a 3/2. then it blew out….
THIS IS THE PROBLEM. Its so unpredictable here unless you can sit a look at it all day to catch the perfect window. I feel like the forecasters always undercall it on the east. Yeah its not cali or the north shore. but **** a clean 3ft day is still better than fair give us something to get a little stoked about ****, I wasnt really pumped to take off work yesterday to drive to OBX because it seemed like it was going to be another day thats good for a few hours in the morning an then it goes to ****. Beating myself up over it today looking at all the pics and hearing about the guys that got barreled out of their minds.....
Dude, this was not a 20sec GS coming from Japan. I'd say, from where I am, it was quite accurate. No, there were no 6' grinders but it was a very fun swell. And to all the credit the forecast network of which forum you're posting was actually the most accurate. I know, I looked at others- they had it generally worse. Lousy job working for SI, if you over reach- you suck, you're trying to pump revenue, swell sucked, etc, etc. If you by any chance under call some off set when the wind just turned and someone snapped a pic- you suck, always under calling. I'd say more danger in over reaching. Like TV meteorologists, it's always better to be on the safe side. Tell people it will rain, and it ends up sunny, it's like Xmas, nice gift. Over report and *****ing won't stop. Plus, it is nice to have few people less in the water, who can wait for those perfect conditions to get barreled out of their mind, bro.
On Monday was able to squeeze in short (< 1 hr) early AM, lunchtime, and late afternoon sessions at Croatan and Dam Neck but continue to struggle on lower volume board. Water temps were nice - high 60s. Tried to get out this morning, but car crapped out and had to be towed, with board on roof, to shop.
My wife always asks me why I groan after a session driving past waves that look real good. "aren't you happy you got to surf today?" Sadly, most of the time I just want more. If they are still good and my arms are jello, Im pissed I can't keep going.
I know alot of you have been suffering the dreaded flat spell.. but monmouth co. nj has seen swell after swell since january .every week we've had a good to great swell and surf several days a week . surprised there haven't been more pics . great waves last weekend through yesterday and another swell for friday . IT MAYBE DIRTY JERSEY but the surfs been clean , oh and no IROC sightings .
I know what you mean, I try to be grateful of any waves I get though, I hate getting out of the water if it's still working out there though
your right, bottom line is I live way to far away but change is coming soon. I was just frothing over missing a opportunity to get barreled in OBX before I move.
We had some solid waves on Monday and Tuesday. Here's some from Monday June 2 that gives an idea of the quality:
Dang, you would never catch me trunking it in 63 degree water. Calm that noise. I was up in OC a couple years ago in the first week of June and I was straight cold in my 3/2 in the AM. And I was visiting from San Diego where the water was only around 67 or so, so its not like I came from 80 degree water. I just felt freaking cold and it was a warm morning.
Surf was surprisingly fun this evening...long rights....wasn't expecting much since last night the swell seemed to be diminishing. Surfed every day since Sunday evening, couple 4 hour sessions. Would be nice if it continued...but my arms are killing me...haven't used the carver during this surf feast
Whoa! I jumped in my chair a little at those. Where is that again... Nice pics, thanks for sharing. I never shrug at EC swell photos, no matter how many have I seen...on the other hand when I see another bomb on Cloudbreak or Mac's, it just doesn't move me whole lot. Maybe if I had a ticket in hand, or something. EC stuff is precious. EC stuff without 6/5 and gloves= more precious.
