Tell me if you guys think this would be a good investment. Currently riding an 8'2" soft-top and it isn't cutting it. I have two questions.

    1. Is this a piece of crap or not? (The ding repair doesn't look to quality but I don't know surfboards to well just yet.)

    2. How difficult would it be for me to get up? (I'm pretty stable on the 8'2" thus far.)

    Thanks

6'8" is a big jump from 8'2". I might consider something a little more in the middle. 7'4" 0r something around there. Maybe just rent one that size and see if it works for ya. Doesn't look like a bad price though.

At 135 you should get it. Its not much of an investment. Lots of people started on a board like that and you still have your other board.

Get it and ride it. Cool thing is even though it's probably stolen (like a lot of the junk on CL) there are 200 just like it and it will be hard to ID. Ride her hard and put her up wet, you will learn a lot about your surfing. Win, win, win. Beware, deals to good to be true always are.

Honestly I've only been surfing maybe ten times total. Planning to get in the water at least once a weekend for an extended period of time if not twice a weekend from here on out.

Honestly though, do you guys think that I would be alright on this? Its a foot and a half of a difference. I figured it being a mellow shape on the nose might compensate for some loss in the length.

hard to tell since we don't really know you.
but honestly if you want to surf then buy that 135 dollar POS. go surfing every day and go where no other surfer is. paddle it into every stinking shore break close out you can this summer. you might get hammered but eventually you will start making drops.

just remember to have fun. surfing is supposed to be fun dammit.

If you can paddle into waves and stand up on the 8'2 then you should be able to dial in the 6'8" with a little effort. It will be different and maybe difficult at first, but keep at it. A 6'8" egg shape not an unreasonable choice.

I appreciate all the input. I am going to try and see if I can get a deal out if it. Luckily I live close to the guy so I am gonna try to check it out in person before I buy it.

No. It's not the standing up part, it's the paddling and catching part. If you want to frustrate yourself and ruin your weekend, get this board. If you want to catch waves, go a little bigger. It is true, you can learn to surf on a nice floaty egg, shoot, you can learn on a 6' thruster, but it is more frustrating up front.

True. I'm going through this frustration now in downsizing from an 8-4 high volume board. Lousy surf hasn't helped.

Why is the soft top not cutting it?

If you are consistently catching waves and going down the line on the soft top, then I think the Ron Jon would be a good next step. Yes, it's a piece of crap, but that shape should work fine for you and you can always sell it for $100 easily.

If you are not consistently catching waves and going down the line on the soft top (which based on your description of how much you surf, I would bet is the case), I would stick with what you have now.

If you really want to get better, surf more, it's the only way. If you can't surf more, that's OK as long as you are having fun, but realize you will never get good at surfing by going 1x a week, in the summer, on the weekend in a crowded surf zone.

I think I just want a legit board. The soft-top is great and all but I just want something that's more sturdy under the feet. I am still contemplating on that Ron Jon just because it is so cheap but I also just talked to a guy about the first board in this post ( http://baltimore.craigslist.org/spo/4513252155.html ) its a "Natural Art" Single fin and is 6'10". It looks kind of cool and that retro single fin aspect is interesting to me. What would you guys say about that?
