I can't imagine going in unless having that kind of ability. A wipeout there could spell major trouble for your average/slightly above average swimmer. Even a seasoned swimmer could get caught off guard in a hurry there.

I keep watching that video. That break is downright angry.

What a wave! every guy who made the drop found himself with nowhere to go! I get Closeout beach breaks at Narragansett . . . And at Belmar, only Belmar is way bigger, dude.

seriously, these people are out of their ****ing minds. Id be less scared surfing mavericks than that wave. Its not just crazy, its kind of stupid to take off on a wave that is going to smash you 9 out of 10 times

This place is built for skimboarding strait up. Spongers pack the place like mice at a cheese house. The are the scourge of the earth !!! really just at the wedge. Been quite a while but I used to skim it in the late 90s, when the waves were a bit smaller than that of course. The main danger is getting knocked out.

^^^ that last video just reminded me of this:

I think it was posted a while back but every time I see this clip it boggles my mind. kinda undoes all the years surfboard "innovation" and progress with this dude getting completely pitted on nothing but a skimboard. The dude FLIES too, amount of speed he generates is ridiculous. I can just picture him saying "Oh so quad fin boards have less drag than thrusters? pffff just get rid of the fins altogether and you have no drag!"

(I know he's getting towed into those waves as well in the video, but I think he uses that little potato chip to paddle sometimes too, which in itself is hard to fathom)

True. Only two feet of water under foot. Pretty creepy considering how much volume that wave is pulling.

Don't get how more people don't get killed/ break their necks at this spot. I remember last year a bodysurfer hit the rocks and died. . . . . The surfers are truly mad, I would probably sponge it but surf no way. Defiantly a good way to practice your air drop to closeout barrel

I could sit and watch big wedge on youtube all day. They have some real cool skimboard videos at the wedge, too.

I've done that about three times... Really easy to get lost in the wedge...

I'm pretty sure that "over the falls" Wedge sequence was from the original "Endless Summer".

Some really good bodysurfing going on in that vid, especially in Hawaii. I think the Mexico sequence was from Lovers Beach in Cabo.

haha yeah, looks like a horrible water ride gone wrong. probably would be kinda fun if it was in more than 2 feet of water lol

still can't figure out why the guy with the camera needed to lick the lens... suppose he was just excited to get the shot and couldn't contain himself...
