Dude OBX is the best. You have so many places on the islands. My fav is S-turns and the lighthouse. Its all good during fall, winter and early spring. summer is way to crowded.

I love OBX, the water temps make it special. The Gulf stream is a natural heater and it's the most consistent spot on the East Coast I've seen yet...

Dude, if your from VB like I am, the Outer Banks are your saving grace. I've sured all over the world, and still nothing can compare to a good day down south. You can get so barreled so many times down there you wont even know what to do with yourself.

Folks have a place in Avon. It's my favorite place in the world. So chill. There are spots everywhere. I just got back from Hawaii and learned what a crowded spot really is. Nothing like that in OBX. I <3 OBX

OBX? Bro just call it Hatteras. Hatteras is probably the second thickest spot on the east coast. When i am not in OC, MD I am there. Personally I think everywhere in NC sucks compared to Shipsterns, Rodanthe, Secret Spot, S-Turns, Lighthouse, and sometimes Frisco Pier when you get a sick southswell with offshore winds. Hatteras is pretty fun to be on a mini vacation, but it gets boring there especially when it rains. If there is no surf just go to Buxton's outdoor skatepark or go to the secret spot skate park. Oh yeah, I think they are changing something about the OBX surf challenge so all of those VB guys quit complaining about there scores. get the new ESM, all the local pro's from NC dish dirt on you VB boys.....

Most regions along the Mid Atlantic and Northeast have some heavy breaks...

I wouldn't necessarily claim that Hatteras has the heaviest tho...

Because of its location, Hatteras does pick up a lot of swell, and may be the most consistent east coast area. And, one very noticeable difference, is on the longer period ground swells, the continental shelf plays less of a role on offshore swell decay - so hatteras will often pick up the ground swells bigger.

On the negative side, Hatteras does get maxed out when there is a big enough swell, where it breaks way out on the outside bars.

obx ****s on ocmd...from corolla down to ocracoke provides surfers/spongers of any level of experience with a handful of gnarly breaks to score epic sessions...the variety of breaks and swells that hit the island make it the best arguably on the EC

    Hmmm...

When Hatteras is on, it's heavier than everywhere else on the EC (I think...until I see proof anyway). Even though I've never been to your spot Micah..folks I know who have been still say it's heaviest here......annnnnd much more consistent.

Does get maxed out though. Don't really look forward to long period east swells.

I wonder how many of you have actually paddled out when it has some size to it? Sitting or standing on the beach when it is going off really does not say much about how you think it may be.

And of course OCMD Sucks the big one, but it sure does not suck like VA Beach, that place blows. I am sure the only reason any VA rippers are rippers is because they can just drive south.

I mean really, OBX is the top of the mountain on the east coast, in more ways then one. The open space down there makes it a winner right off, then the warmer water, then that extra push/power in comparison to other spots. It wins on those points alone, who really needs it to be the heavy on the block? And having that nice .......clear/more clear then other spots,..water.... sure is a plus as well.

By the way, there is one spot on the Delmarva that is a sight to behold for maybe two or three hours, 4 or 5 times a year. When it is working and on size, those lips are to be respected, period. The thickness of the waves have got to be seen to be believed. IT IS HEAVY FOR SURE.

Other then that, most spots suck on the eastcoast, but these spots are our homes, so we loves them just the same. Enjoy the rides bros...

    John Witzig lives

A quality wave is a quality wave is a quality wave, and I've ridden many quality waves in Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, and Florida, so there's plenty to go around for everyone. Can't we all just get along? Put a sock in it.

I've surfed very good waves all up and down the coast... But, of course, we are all going to love our home breaks! Unless of course, you live in VB, then you just love the Outer Banks breaks...

Here's one for the light weights... its a frame grab from MIA.

I pulled this one out of the archives. Notice the Delawaresurf.com... this was my old site like 10 years ago, if anyone was checking my forecasts back then.

    well....

i live in vb and surf in hatteras allot more than here....recently atleast. it just doesnt hold in vb or anything....hatteras holds sick big swell and fat barrels kinda consistently....but their are bars on the east coast on the right swell that are spitting heaving heavy ass barrels too... when the windfetch is orientated the right way hatteras gets sloppy short period swell while up north they are getting medium period swell with offshore winds....i have scored really epic while hatteras was less then perfect for sure....be open minded. and stop BLOWING UP HATTERAS. your lucky the locals dont go on this website.....haha their to busy actually surfing...

Buxton area cause you can go to the east to hit up areas around lighthouse, or, depending on the winds hit up Frisco which faces to the south.

Id say Frisco cause I absolutely LOVE the campground there, camping in the dunes is soo fun (B12) ..the long boardwalks out to the beach are fantastic..and no houses around.

Frisco..first time I ever got barreled for sure :D
