Meg, you're seeing how we roll here on SI. Your avatar proves you like to shott barrells and that's a prereq even for a down azz wahine. Props. Knowing what we have to look forward to tomorrow with the butt pic, what does Trowback Tursday have to offer? Front pics are fine. I think the most impressive thing of all is that you just paddled right into the lineup here and asked when the next good set was coming in rather than the ill-fated Hello tread. You've got good promise, woman.
In my experience the drive is easy - way easier on your car than the trip to witches. It does take a full day though, and I haven't done it during rain. The wave is amazing, and there's not much else going on there besides a couple of soda's and the Manta Ray. Like anywhere, be respectful and watch out for the locals. I got dropped in on there and almost lost my eye.
I hadn't been to Pavones since 01 when they were building the new "hiway" south east. I bet the place is plenty full these days. You ever take the ferry south of there? We got lost leaving and ended up at a river inlet situation. It was a bunch of pallets on barrels with planks on top for the tires. there was a pulley attached to a cable and an outboard motor on the back. We got to the other side and drove inland and ended up on at the Aduana entering from Panama.
Pavones can be fun, though that wave is over-rated. It can line up on a certain swell angle, though when it does it is not a secret. In my opinion, it is probably the most inconsistent wave in southern CR. There are lots of uncrowded options around MA area with better exposure, such as a few slabs, river mouths, and beach breaks. If you stay true and immerse yourself in the culture, then there is no problem with the locals...who typically rip way harder than most visiting surfers.
Your avatar reminds me of a friend from college who knocked out a front tooth and chipped the other. He went to a really cheap Asian dentist and ended up with 2 HUGE crowns for front teeth.
