Nice swell. Why they rode shortboards like longboards on those waves, I don't get.

Not the greatest surfing display, but my god, what a wave, what a swell. I would like to think I wouldn't be so stiff legged out there, but then again, maybe I am.

i surfed it at waist/chest high and it was essentially pump until it closed out. you could still get a 50 yard ride out of it.

experienced my first earthquake there too

Depends on what part of the wave that is right there it's such a long wave sometimes certain parts of the wave only allow so much and your basically just trying to get to a specific section on the wave

I was thinking the same thing. It almost looked like a good longboard wave. I'd love to see how my mini simmons works on that one. Maybe a nice quad fish would do the trick.

Pretty sure on a left of that size I would do no better. I was convinced I was gonna slash and burn El Salvador but once there, in a strange place and big surf I suddenly became very conservative.

^^^ That'll happen. I've been there a few times. I recall my first North Shore experience, feeling cock strong, and then feeling the power of the waves and not feeling so cock strong anymore. lol

Granted they're not looking like MF on that wave and surf vid quality should usually be pro, but how many guys on here can surf like those guys? One of them was maneuvering repeatedly whereas the others were more conservative. On a wave of consequence like that, how many guys here would have Domke ballz?

I always thought it would be interesting to see the actual skill level of everyone on this board. I have been surfing for 35 years, you would think I would be damn good. Sometimes it all comes together and I am better than most on a given day. The very next day it all falls apart. When I look at that wave I'm not even sure I would paddle out.

yep. no doubt. they are butt wiggling their 6'2"s to keep up with a double overhead rolling pointbreak. you'll need a bigger board to make that look smooth. check out Curren's surfing JBay for the first time...He's riding a 7'2" quad!! he makes it look smooooooth.

That's a big big wave with A LOT of current and power behind it. You eat sh*t or catch an edge trying to get fancy beyong your skill level, and you're gonna get mowed down my a lot of foam, gasping for your gringo life.

Sick wave. These dudes were just surfing it too slow, thats all. Your sh** is gonna look ugly if you are surfing slow on a super fast wave like that. The guys going backside just couldn't get it lined up vertically. They just needed more speed to get some torque out of those bottom and top turns. Probably a much tougher wave than it looks, but I don't know if it was board size more than it was their experience in a wave that big and fast.

Yup, had that happen on half that wave in El Sal. I thought my time was up when I popped to the surface to find a crazed Australian bearing down on me. Caused him to straighten off, felt like a tool and proned one in to get my nerve back.
