yea I wouldn't take shyt from westcoasters, but Hawaii is a different field.people who surf for 50yrs die there. funny u posted something like that I was thinking today about how certain people try to act cool and act like they know everything when they don't know shyt.I don't get it.like I ran into an old buddy at the beach who wanted to try to surf and the kid went out and caught like a 1footer on a 9ft board and hes like I got this!!!2 more waves and im ready for the hurricane swells.like are u fukin serious or are u just retarded?that shyt pisses me off.dudes probably going around telling everyone how good he surfs.u have to put time in this game to get ur "credentials" or respect or whatever u call it.dont go do 1 thing 1 time and think u are the best at it.i felt like punching him in the face but had to let it slide
Ohh man. Been there. Wait until you get there, and every d-bag with any skills that you meet is going to give you the... ohh, you are from where? Ohhh, they get waves there? I know it gets okay when a hurricane comes, but blah blah blah blah... Ohh, get ready to be on the defensive. Or just let it roll off and let your surfing talk. No one will say sh** to you in the water if you are surfing well... Its just the guys on campus, or at the bar that will give you that, ohhh, you are from the east coast and you "surf"... Yeah. Welcome to California where the real waves are bro!.... It's pretty lame. See the Volcom Thread.
But with that being said, I got similar treatment in Hawaii even when I tell a guy I was living in CA. They are like ohh, welcome to heaven dude. The waves here make California look like the east coast. Im like, yeah bro. Sure. Thanks. I know it gets good there and super heavy, but I don't need a speech from a bartender when I was half way through a 2 week trip and it had maxed out at chest high.
when people say u don't get waves on the eastcoast, ask them if they know what a noreaster is.be like, bro do u even know what snow is lol.snow equals waves.cali is overated, they have a few good spots, but most is the same crap we get here in the summer, small mushy waves.theres only a few hollow waves in cali.plus they have 50 million people who surf so who wants to go surf with 50 million people?i been wanting to move out to cali for the longest, for the waves and the reefer.i don't like crowded areas I like to be in small numbers.u go to a beach with 10000 drunk people and all ur trying to do is surf, situations get sketchy.anywhere I go I always pick out the threats.when theres only a few people u stand a chance lol,ur on a beach like Huntington with 10000 people and youll get jumped from behind and by the time its over u wont even know who did it because theres another 800 people watching
Yeah, but it aint as bad as anyone thinks. Hawaii and CA are consistent. That more than anything puts the value of their waves up a notch. As for quality. For every Hollow barreling wave on the east coast, there are 100 mushy sh**burger waves all around it. For every Hollow barreling wave on the west coast, there are 100 mushy sh**burger waves all around it. For every Hollow barreling wave In Hawaii, there are 100 mushy sh**burger waves all around the rest of the island (Certain areas excluded). But it is what it is. I think everyone that has never spent timing living in any of these areas has "misconceptions" about them all. People that haven't spent a few years on the islands think hawaii breaks ever day and its always big and hollow. People who have never spent years on the east coast, season after season, all think there are never waves here. People that have never lived in CA think that the water actually gets warm at some point, that the crowds are insane (which is exactly what they want you to think), and from a ton of comments on here, people are unaware of a lot of the heavier waves out there throughout the whole state. And people that are born and raised on the east coast forget that during our prime surfing season (Hurricane Season), the west coast enjoys a better, more consistent hurricane season at the exact same time, every year... Don't take sh** from nobody regardless of where you are from or where you are currently living. Surfing translates into any language, on any coast in the world. If everybody just goes out and surfs, everything is spoken without words. Where you are from doesn't matter. It's when you are out at the bar, or at a party and "johnny local" starts running his mouth about where you are from or where he is from. It's never in the water that all the BS happens. People just shut up and surf.
How tough do you look? I've found that guys with face tattoos look pretty scary and I generally wouldn't talk smack to them. Have you considered a face tattoo yet? Other than that you're pretty much F'd.
id go tell them in cali that the south is 1000 times better, and our food is better and everything. if i was confronted in that situation i would fight for my state and the south against the evil west coasters.
Yes I met a lot of these types when I lived in California. Right after moving there, I came across a lot of these types. Now the people I meet in Florida are like the opposite. "Why would you move all the way out here after being in California bro? You really wanna surf this weak and inconsistent garbage?". I have to tell them I did live in jersey my entire life before California.
haha blasters go! every time i see your posts I'm hearing that Hank Williams song "If the South would have won we'd had it made" does anyone else miss Arthur?
Hahah wordd man! I'm sure I'll eventually snap on someone and show them what's up. Ill only be able to take so much crap from these ignorant people. Reppin the right coast 4 lyfe
