Yea i was worried when i started it, but curiosity got the best of me. I see your arguments for the big jacking monster wedgy type surf. I guess i just dislike that kind of wave either way. I like watching guys get killed in that stuff but its not for me. Give me a reallllllly long right hander that has a barrel section and im in heaven. My favorite wave ever surfed has to be Rincon Ca. Super long mellow right that you can just rip apart.
I hear what your saying man. I don't knock anybody for what they like to do. We can all have fun, and to each his own. I used to bodyboard when I was very young, but when I started surfing, I never looked back.
I've been on a boogie since the mid 80's and never have looked back. I've riden a long board on small waves afew times but other than that I've never really surfed, Cost , ease of travel , and Freedom to ride pretty much anywhere I want 365 a year are all big factors. But mostly I love the ocean , I love the 'peace' I have on MOST days out.Not to mention I find it fun. And it keeps me in some sort of shape. Cause I'm a lazzy b!tch. I don't care how you ride a wave as long as you are doing it for your own reasons and show others the bare minimums in edicate. The "Cha Right on Braaa's!!!" killed surfing for me in VAB.(I could never get over how douchey alot of em where.) Most every body boarder I've ever known that is REALLY into the sport (from the top to the bottom.) are cool freaking peeps. I deff. can not say the same for surfing ALOT of a$$holes in there along with whats seems to be a very view cool , open minded people.
ahhaha.. yeah Joyner!! Enjoy and get it good down there!!! I'm going into work late to hopefully get some meaty ****ing barrels in LBI...that's right, I said LBI...
I do both. I choose depending on the lineup and the conditions. I dont like the "Im better than you" aspect of surfing. It just seems when im in an all bodyboard lineup the vibe is nice and positive. No matter what your skills are. When surfing i see a bunch of beople who puff their chest out and are more into what others thought of their wave rather than surfing and having a good time. Sometimes I just want to go off in one direction. Surfing or bodyboarding. I cant choose. And on the eastcoast you need to be able to ride all different random types of waves. Whatever floats your boat.
i used o only body board but once i got the hang of surfing i stoped body boarding except on those rare 1 1/2 overhead days where i body board because im not quite as good at surfing yet...
i love doing both...im not all that great at surfing and i dont have a lot of confidence when it comes to surfing either....ill try to bodyboard on anything (on the east coast) at least once until i eat it and hurt myself, but i wont try to surf waves that i think are too big for me haha theyre both fun, i dont see what the big deal is with people not liking one of the two.....if youre not in a competition, surfing or bodyboarding, its all for fun...i think a lot of people need to relax over the whole deal
Yea i dont like that mentality either, I find myself frustrated when i don't make a wave or screw up a turn, and it takes some of the fun out. Of course when i make a turn or get barrelled or somethin it makes it all worth it. I definitely see more of a competitive spirit in surfing
Bodyboarding only for me. I tried the stand-up act once or twice and couldnt really get the hang of it. The damn thing hurt too much when it hit you. As well as others said, i didnt like the arrogance of stand-ups, which I've witnessed too many times. Also, i wanted to be DIFFERENT. Theres plenty of stand-ups and it is becoming more mainstream daily. Living at the beach, my friends who came to visit all were like, "ohh, can you teach me to surf?" and I'm like, "sure, on a bodyboard" They weren't all for that, but some were. I can bodyboard on PLENTY of days where you won't see a single stand-up, and I like it that way. Close-outs and launches own. You wont see many stand-ups tucking into 2-3 ft barrels, as its a little difficult to do so during certain conditions. I'll drop into the best of them, I can be just as agressive as anybody out there. There's plenty of leg aspect in spongin' , thus, athleticism is required. I get the sorest ankles and feet sometimes and I feel it all the way into my back for sure. And, like what was said before, **** 'em
i love to drop knee and get shacked on my sponge...... started surfing a funboard on smaller days then got into shaping surfboards it's been keeping me busy..... now i only sponge once in a while in the summer when the guards come on and i dont want to get out quite yet.... i got much respect for both styles of wave riding and surf most of the time.....
I;ve always had one, been surfing for 25 years (I'm 37) usually take it out 1-3 times a year for the hell of it just for a change of pace, or (more and more the past 5-6 years) if I've hurt my back, knee(s) or shoulder pretty bad and there's a swell I don't want to miss, I'll BB
Zansurf... Do you do cutbacks on your surfboard braaaaaa? Airs braaaaaa? Bodyboarding is more fun. Before you hate get some Fresh Candy Coated Bapes.
I bodyboard because I enjoy it.I don'tcare what anybody thinks. I'm not doing it to please anyone else . different strokes for different folks
Dude i never said anything negative about bodyboarding i just wanted some opinions way to look like an ass
what about stand up on a bodyboard, i think its one of the best things to do in the non surfing days of summer. Not to mention how it helps your surfing all around, really using all the features and rails of the board. much respect to bodyboarders who can handle huge dumpy slabs with nothing more than a rail for stability.
foam is cool, love to bodysurf, fiberglass is much respected ,...that crap is sharp and bad for your health. That is one of the main reasons they get the big bucks, oh and they stand-up as well, small point right? but I can so let go and never worry about that board coming back and hitting me in the head, face, mouth, body, cutting the crap out of me, faling on it. waves suck around here, we only get real faces once in a while, our two hour wonder swells make me just want to have fun and get some exercise, getting older you know<<<? Love to just paddle out with camera and fins though. much respect to those who stand-up and ride the glass but i prefer the foam just the same. litttle cost and no worries with the foam.
