There is no more 4x4 beach driving north of the lite house in OBX!!! Some idiot was wreckless driving on the beach a few weeks back and when he went to court, the Federal judge decided that there are not enough regulations for beach drivers........so the beach is closed for driving until a set of rules is created.....see the article.

Go figure... I was planning a trip down in October to do just that... drive the beach in my Jeep and look for nice empty peaks... Article says they're not enforcing it, hope they don't.

I drove on Frisco this last Saturday. I don't think they are enforcing it yet. They'll probably start issuing license plates like DE does. If they outlawed driving on the beach, it would totally kill the already fragile economy down there. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Don't get your hopes up on the "empty" peaks. :D

ha sounds like they stumbled on to another source of tax revenue... sigh. The Delaware process isn't too painful and I'd agree the backlash straight up closing it would be huge.

i just returned from a rodanthe on saturday and at that time the ruling was not being enforced. sad though how it only takes on inconsiderate leper to ruin something good for everyone else. i hope he was taken out and keel-hauled.
