with summer comes crowding and a loss of etiquette that should not occur. doods (and'ettes) THE RIDER HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY. the surfer up and moving down the line has first dibs on the the available space out there and if you're in their way YOU SHOULD NOT BE. which means (as a courtesy) you ACTIVELY MOVE TO GET OUT OF THEIR WAY. this action is incumbent on the pack and YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. how to do so? pick a 90 degree angle with the riders forward direction your starting point and paddle that way. or just plain move from the hot zone. this behavior is an intricate part of our sport and should be exhibited cause of the "don't do me like that" factor. cause you wouldn't want it done to you. i know i sound pompous but i really do have 50yrs short boarding experience and if this thread prevents one collision or fistfight then being a fathead was worth it.
I would also like to add to this: If someone is paddling for a wave and in position to take off and you keep shooting over and jumping in front of them, you are going to piss someone off.
****ing swimmers I can't wait till they all leave the beach and we can go back to me being the only person in the water on the beach. Cheers for a good September and October.
both of these surfers are kooks. she shouldn't be going but if had any skill he could have avoided impact. he could have just pulled out.
That was intentional as it gets. HILARIOUS, but intentional. But yeah, the guy is a bigger kook than her for sure. Look at him just angling his cut back... That is either the worst, spray to the face attempt ever, or completely intentional.
i'll get flamed for this but... i have punched people, been in fights, lost friends, etc because the other person wouldn't obey the rules or display proper etiquette. i used to have no patience for someone who was f'n things up. i would not do that now for fear of it getting filmed, a lawsuit, charges, or whatever f**gits do these days. times change and it will only get worse in the water imho
Not sure why you would lean your body away from your board and extend into that girl like that. I would definitely lean my body towards the girl and slap that fat ass when cruising by.
and she got what she deserverd surfing can be a dangerous thing if you don't know the ocean or the rules this ain't coloring books bich
He has an NSP funboard, I don't think he was about to do a cutback..... Heres the full video:
Agreed. Something to note though. Unfortunately times have changed and now people see surfing on the internet or the today show or whatever and they think it's all fun and giggles like a day at the beach with no danger. I would bet that someone who just picks up surfing without any instruction from a friend or whatever would never think of line up rules or there existence. Unlike before the internet blew up when if you learned to surf it was from a friend or family member or something like that who tells you about these rules. My point is, as guys who have been in this for awhile we do need to realize that allot of newer guys never heard of etiquette and need to be told. First time offender, teach him, give him some words of advice is a serious but non confrontational way. Multiple offenders can be dealt with however you please. I say this because I see it allot by me. People are clueless in the water, and when they don't follow etiquette guys don't say a word. Or they get all aggressive. The point that there in the wrong never gets across so they don't learn and keep doing it. We can't keep these idiots from surfing, but we can make our line ups friendlier and more importantly SAFER if you teach these guys the rules. If they still don't get it, run em ova!
reason # 428 why I avoid lineups...rather take the smaller empty wave down the way and not bother with all that. That and my bro I stay with in Wilmywood is terrible about etiquette. Not just surfing, known the guy for decades and he's a bull in a china shop every where he goes. Wouldn't even think of taking him into a lineup, he's not fit for public consumption. I'll hit the pier solo if there's nothing else breaking, otherwise I'm off somewhere else.
slapping that azz and 'this aint coloring books bich' both made me laugh the idea of some kook woman having her ass slapped for taking off on someone makes me laugh
All ended well for both parties, He sued NSP for the board’s inability to maneuver like they do in all of the videos he watched before purchasing. She’s now sponsored by Oneill and rumored to be Ronda Rousey’s next victim / opponent. Win!
