Acquired this Gerry Lopez Lighting Bolt 6'7 surfboard while doing some work at a south florida estate. It was on display at a very wealthy persons home and I asked about it while I was there doing some boat work, so I took a chance and took $1,000 off their tab. My friend took it to a surf shop in south florida and it was on consignment there for a week @ 3000$, but I had to head north for a little bit, so it is now on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Aut...472?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a94d3f320 Would like to know if anyone can verify its authenticity. Currently at my home up north and trying to get rid of it. Thanks.
The first board I shaped is a dog it doesn't turn or duckdive but it looks cool and is bright white with cool graphics and clean with no dings but it surfs like shi$ and I am thinking of putting a channel island sticker on it and spraying a clear coat on it and putting it up on craigs list for $500 is that so wrong?
We had a faker come through my shop last year. Lopez had other guys shaping for him once the craze began and everyone wanted one, so depending on the year it may or may not be his. I'll try to ask what to look for and let you know.
Real or Not the board is not worth anywhere near $3,000. The condition of the board is a 4/10 at best and would a good amount of work to be worth half that amount. When it comes to vintage boards condition is everything. That board as it sits is maybe a $500-$600 if it were authentic. Always do your research.
That board was made at Hobie's ,they had the US contract to make them in the States. Dan Brawner signed Lopez name. and did the bolt and pinlines.
This. That board is in poor shape to a collector. A real collector......the ones who will spend the real money..... wouldn't even be interested in it. I wouldn't even pay $400 for it. Heck I just got this one for $150.
sweet cc rider man. claude was just at my shop last week. hes driving up and down the east cost still showcasing boards out of his van. would have loved to show him this. we have a HUGE collection here. that bolt is not in good condition not worth the price brotha
When looking at these sorts of listings on eBay, pay no attention to the asking prices. You want to search the completed and sold listings. That way you can see what things really sell for. Here is a listing for an original lightning bolt that is considerably more desirable, has the original fin and is in much better condition. It sold for $910. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lig...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
