Anyone know about vintage boards?

    Hello,

    This is my first post on here. I was cleaning out my garage last week and completely forgot I have these two 70's style surfboards and would like to sell them. I have no clue what they are worth, but gauging interest for vintage boards I'm thinking $600-$1,000 for both...maybe I'm way off here. That's why I'm posting to see if anyone can help me out with what they might be worth.

    Board #1: 1972 Gordon and Smith, 7'2" Long, 2' Wide, 3" Thick. Numbers on the board are 72 3493. It's in good condition. There are 2 small holes about a dime in size that need to be repaired, otherwise it's in good condition.

    Board #2: Mid 70's??? Infinity, 7' Long, 2.5"thick, 21" Wide. J. Mack signature with the number 4482 I think...it's hard to read. This board is in good shape too. A couple dings, but for the most part a good board. There are some brown spots on the bottom of the board.

    hmm a vintage board would be rad but i just don't have that kind of money. put it up on ebay and craigslist and see if anyone bites :eek:

    Unless someone is in the market for one of those specific boards, I'd doubt you'd get anything for them. The brown spots on the bottom sound like its been waterlogged and molded, and its not really worth it to fix it. And if the other board has been dinged, its probably got the same problem. Add that to the fact they've been sitting in your garage for x amount of years, and those boards are not in as good a shape as you thought. Sorry, sounds like a bust. But maybe you'll find someone who wants one, good luck!

    Not sure where you are located but boards both vintage and otherwise sell fast on Craigslist in San Diego.
    Be sure to have good pictures.

    Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I'll try Craigslist and see what happens in San Diego. I'm in SoCal, so i'd be close enough to deliver them. The boards are not in pristine shape obviously, but I don't know enough about them to price them. I guess I'll try $500 for both...their pretty cool looking boards so someone could make a coffee table out of them or hang em on the wall...that way the brown spots wouldn't matter.

    try fixing them up yourself a bit and get some good photos of them... if you can't sell to a collector or old school surfer then for sure you could sell it to a restaurant or shop. vintage boards are quite difficult to come by, you should try and make some good money off of yours if you are not going to keep them for yourself. good luck :)
