Dirty Jersey once again lived up to it's name. I paddled out Monday evening and later that night started getting a sore throat. I woke up the next two days not being able to swallow at all. And Wednesday morning i started noticing bumps on my hands and arms. It started to spread more and more to my neck, chest, and face. I finally went to the dermatologist today and it turns out it was all a reaction to the high bacteria levels. The worst part is that Monday's swell was small and sucky and overall not worth it.

I wonder if a group of surfers and environmentalsts could successfully Sue the state of New Jersey.

There were a few beach closings earlier this week due to high bacteria levels and i'm one of the unlucky people who got the **** end of the stick. But yeah, just got some anti-bacterial scrubs and medications from the doctor so i should be good to go in no time!

Not too sure, although the samples were taken before i was in the water on Monday and I don't think the results were released and beaches were closed until Tuesday or Wednesday. There's definitely an argument there.

Did it rain before you paddled out.I try to stay out of the water after a hard rain now.I was just fed up with getting sick after a rainy session time and time again.

The bacteria comes mostly from runoff. There's no way to prove where it comes from.

So he should sue the State of New Jersey for water bacterial levels produced by the residents of the State of New Jersey of which he is one? Who are these environmentalists that we should trust with the ocean water quality?

Had the exact same experience from a Monday afternoon sesh. Surfed south of the reported dirty LB beaches. Throat was sore Tuesday into Thursday with usual accompanying sinus issues. Curious how many others may have gotten sick. Loads of surfers in the area that day. It did rain briefly but heavy in the early am that day. Went surfing again Wednesday morn then saw the reports of bacteria later on. It made sense at that point to me. Almost back to normal after eating well, vitamins, a little bit more rest than usuall and some punk rock this eve.

Sounds like another typical day at too many American ocean beaches.

I got sick too from surfing Sunday afternoon. Sounds like we got the same thing but I didn't get bumps on my skin. Just a nasty sinus infection.

When I checked the waves before work this week- Either Monday or Tuesday morning- there was a moco 'department of health' truck down there-I guess taking some samples?? Idk... But runoff is nothing to fool around with- unless you like car oil and dog pee in your sinuses... There is good news- you can still surf... Just use a netti pot after! I use one after surfing after a heavy rain or anytime I suspect dirty water- and I can't remember the last time I got an infection from surfing

I surfed seaside and friends surfed Spring Lake and we are all fine. I think proximity to an outflow pipe is what made the difference.

Ive gotten very sick from goose $hit. Too close to pond overflow pipes after heavy rains. Was akin to food poisoning and just as awful.
