    Hey guys,

I'm looking to make a surf app that people will want to actually use. I don't care if it makes money or anything like that. I'm just hoping to make something that helps people out and get some experience doing it.

I was thinking one that scans surf forecasts for your particular spots and alerts you when there will be decent conditions sometime during the upcoming week. This way you can plan days off to go surf etc.

    Any other ideas?

How about an app that alerts me when other peoples app are telling them to all take off work and crowd my spot, and then sends viruses to their phones?

Bro if forecasts and apps would even be accurate, which they're not likely to be, that's learned helplessness. Past of the fun here is learning all the meteorology and tendencies of your respective breaks so you can identify with quick looks at existing surf reports when it's likely to be good at your spots. Kind of like how I counted calories and food intake for so damn long that for the last several years I can plan out my meals without counting down to the tenth calorie and I can look at a plate and generally tell you with accuracy what is on there for cals.

Don't promote spoon feeding bro. The POA gets stronger of you do.

Yeah, how about just don't. We don't need any apps. This is worse than spammers.

Yeah you can take a nice long piece of pepperoni sausage and shove it up your A$$. You want to rip off other forecasts by scanning them then send you a little bing bong alert message for the best spot to go surf? You little nancy boys want technology to do everything for your pitifull little asse$s. Does your mommy still wipe the dookie off your butt after you crap too Jr?

Sorry bud, but rcarter is right, you can't just go parsing other people's intellectual property, and have at it, whether your making money or not. Surf alerts are not really a novel idea, just haven't got to it here on Swellinfo. Keep thinking of other ideas..

Emass, Yeah I hear you, that's a good point. Maybe that example wasn't the best. Just trying to experiment with some of the data out there to see if I can come up with something useful... (Again, not for sale but just cause I like f***ing with this stuff.)

Seldom seen, Hate to burst your bubble bud but swellinfo is an "app" itself. The program that reads weather patterns and forecasts directions of storms and upcoming swells? An "app." But you're probably right, who needs apps. I'll just ask my gramps when his joints are aching and then I'll know the storms and swells are coming

SwellInfo is a website, that has it's own an app for mobile devices. Semantics, but for someone who "likes f****** with this stuff," you don't sound like you know what you're talking about.

the only suggestion I have with an app,is go put up hd cams at spots most people don't know, and u have be a local or within a 10mile radius of the spot to get the app.u don't want to put up a bunch of cams and put it on the web for everyone to join in.as far as forecasts, broski lol there are thousands of forecast sites.u will never make it with that.maybe throw in a shark ping so if ur out in the water and mary lee comes creeping up u get a ping when shes 2 miles away

Whoa, take a chill pill rcarter. i find it tastefully ironic that you tear apart someones idea in such a derogatory manner on a website that does exactly that. i mean, isnt that what swellinfo is used for? a useful tool to find out when and if waves are gonna be good around you? i applaud the guy for atleast pondering the idea to streamline surf reports to a device that people always have on them.

Although, in my experience with surf apps... they suck. i have surflines and it blows. might just be my version or my phone but it really doesnt work and isnt reliable. ive generally found that nautical apps are much more accurate and precise than "surf" apps and essentially give you the same info.

Love how we all talk about "raising a banner". Do you cats have any friends off of SI that understand what the hell you're saying when you talk about banners? Mine have no clue but that doesn't stop me from continuously talking about banners.

Bro the Lakers are just one behind now. But I don't think either ball club will be talking to Sumar Kunil Roy (or whatever his name is!) about purchasing commemorative campaign signage anytime soon.

Banners, shred, shotting, all of it, and I relish the looks of confusion I receive.

I will post a pic of Sunil Kumar Roy when I find a new job.

Bros I was pretty close! Kind of made a portmanteau of sorts with the first and middle.

seldom, I always use those terms around lots of outsider friends to their same perplexed faces. However, there's one wahine in SoCal who still remembers what pier shotting is and she also enjoys saying Honeyton equally as much. If we keep spreading the knowledge they will follow. Me and a local bud needed something to do in the flatness of the lineup last year so I told him we needed to call out and request "barrells for Liam". Whenever I'd paddle into a set I'd say "for Liam!" and take off. Wouldn't you know, buddy mentions barrells for Liam the other day which is months later. See bro, it'll stick.

I have a paid membership to Surfline and have their app, and it does exactly that, I get email alerts and I can watch HD cams even while on the road when hunting for a rideable wave. Combined with swellinfo I got a pretty good system going. It's pretty reliable. So unfortunately, your app isn't needed but good thinking, keep working at it till you find something original.

I also subscribe to surfline and MSW. I use SI primarily for my forecasts but the others are a good cross-section check. Micah, can't wait til you get a good app and mobile version. Keep at it bro. Stay at the top.

Make an app that tells you the local marine conditions, and maybe has a topo map. Maybe just make it a link to NOAA. So people can learn how to explore and find sh!t on their own.
