i got a good high def camcorder and a nice tripod im making local surf videos and trying to get a lot of locals in it. so now pretty much all of the swells on hhi and hunting island when i go will get filmed to look back on them. i know some of the sup dudes get a lot of photos but i i never see local videos of this area, you'll see a lot of vids on the washout but not here on you tube. hunting was pretty crazy Tuesday night 30 people out on closeouts and waves that were just sectioning just battling for them lol. but im hoping that some good comes out of these videos when i edit them and stuff..throw some good music on them ect. im thinking reggae and punk on them, but am open to new music, i would like to put country but that would throw some people off. but i wanted to ask you if you had any ideas for the videos. i think it would be cool to get more people involved. no one will really ever say hhi has no waves, when they see that people actually surf here in south carolina. thinking of doing like little interviews of people to and like as them questions about surfing you know? just looking for some ideas. i think i might buy another gopro, i had to sell my old one. but the fish eye lens on them make 6 foot waves look like 2 foot. but give me some input. what do yall think makes good surf videos and what do you think would be different to do in them to set them aside from the regular blah blah crappy ones.
Avoid showing the same air over and over, make sure there is variety of surf styles, show them paddle into the wave rather than cutting straight to them popped up and surfing. Pick music that matches the waves and feel of the surfing.
Cool, have fun Blasters, and post that sh*t up here as soon as it's done! My recommendations: 1) Good music. No techno electronica BS, chill vibe stuff (Reggae/Country if it's the right stuff, T.V.S. etc) & racey thrashy stuff (Wipers), for the chill-vibey parts and the racey shreddin parts. Seems like you got this down. Add some local music if you can. 2) Humor. Pranks. Etc- Get some footage of people d*ckin around so that it has a lighthearted fun feel. Yank some leashes, ride two to a board, take out an air mattress out on a big day, etc. 3) Babes. Obviously we should get to scope the local babes also, if not in bikinis then go to some local, preferably trashy, bar. 4) Wipeout section. 5) Last and not least, some CAROLINA F*CKIN CUTBACKS SON!!!
there wont be many airs it will mostly be long boards and fish, and some hpsbs. i like the paddle idea.
i all ready got some high fives and some tackles are on the waves, bikinis are a good idea as well. there will always be carolina cutbacks.
Set some sheep on fire. It worked for ...lost. Fights, drinking, babes, and maybe end with a few bros having pizza together.
Show guys wiping out and making waves. Most vids are either highlight reels or wipeout reels, I like to see both. Esp. seeing someone eat it bad then charge the next one and nail it. When the lil one and I watch surf vids together I like to pull up both types, esp if its the same guy(s) surfing. Look, here's Dane nailing that air then here's a vid of him not making it an wiping out. Helps her to understand that everybody falls, and not have her create unrealistic expectations. Create the mindset that you just get back up and go after it again, something I've already started seeing in her. Granted, I know you're not making this as a surfing 101 vid but I think its cool when vids show guys nailing it and eating it all in the same vid. As for music, if you want to put some country in, try Hank III. Esp. the song "Punch, Fight, F**k". Honky tonk punk...Would be good backing if you did get some clips of guys throwing down in anger.
Hey Sandblasters, good luck with the vid. Hunting is my local and I am interested to see what you can put together. IMO, you can't beat the down the line shots from in the water. Make sure to post your video when you get it put together. Good luck.
I think more vids should have a little clip of a paddle out and actually show someone paddling for a wave.its awesome to see a huge set roll in and see who got the sack to take off.most vids just show the surfer already on the wave, get a little barrel, little turn and an air reverse.thats whats wrong with todays surf vids.get some different angles too, like from the beach,up on a highwall if there around, maybe from the jetty if u have em.good music is a plus.and don't compile 2 sessions into an hour long film.its better to see different swells, different conditions.
Plus one for charging every reasonable wave in sight and especially after eating it on the wave prior. You cats are alright in your ethics.
If you want a to shoot a good clip stop shooting those dog sh!t waves you got down south. Move north and get some real clips. Fish eye makes 6' waves look like 2'? When have you seen a 6' wave down there?
please don't use a gopro for in-water shots. get a waterproof housing for your camera so the whole video will be consistently filmed with one camera. i hate hate hate seeing surf and skate videos that are filmed with different cameras in the same video. not pleasing to the eye at all
Get any footage this weekend? It was thigh to waist all weekend around here. Had a good time on the LB.
