Without fail my calves always cramp up

Where were you in Rhodey during Cristobal? Nearly every break was rocking. It was consistently closing out you say? How and where? I got stoked for nearly 5 hours on waves that were peeling for the most part. Does my avatar pic look like a closeout? Sorry you were at this abnormal break that was closing out while all others were purely macking (saw pics of many other breaks there).

I've had that thought and moment multiple times in different situations. Very sobering. Gotta ask, how long did you stay out after the calves cramp or did you just head out in that gnar knowing they were going to cramp? Because in the rare situations mine do cramp up (usually in bigger swells at the end of several hours of sessions) I take it as an immediate sign that I've now got to head back in because it will only get worse. Just like in winter waves when I start to shiver - you've got 10 minutes before it gets ugly. 5 to get to the beach and another 5 to get to the car.

Agreed on the sticking up for your schitt. However, you have no idea what a ribbing is compared to what I got here in my early days. To say the haters are going easy on you here is an understatement. You're also getting several quality responses and many different ideas and points. There are only so many viable answers you can get to a question and you're basically getting all of them.

The way this forum (and most cliques in society) works is that if you pay your dues and stick around here long you'll start to get more people willing to invest time in responding to you. Just like the longer you're at a break the more you're waves you'll get. The responses you received were a wide assortment of legitimate and accurate info that should more than satisfy your initial inquiry.

For a guy that doesn't regularly post here with frequency, the forum was being a lot nicer than it usually is bro. As for the other haters, they were being pretty mild and weren't outwardly offending you on a personal level. Helps to ignore them especially if you're getting more than you want from others. Many treads I started early on were pure ribbing and no good responses, you're doing fine bro.

Lastly, you're coming onto the forum of a surf forecasting site for detailed medical advice. Not the wisest endeavor and it's not likely to end well. Some cats on here might not have their GED while others are very smart but not doctors. You also mention this happening while you play basketball. Sounds like it's no longer in the surf athlete maintenance category and far more medical. Go to a sports orthopedic or a skilled physical therapy clinic. They've seen it all.

    #1 Smoke more herb

#2 Make sure it's only the finest, no stick, stems, seeds or dirty shwag

#3 Drink plenty of water, cotton mouth is a S.O.B.

#4 J-Off daily and bang only 10's on the reg

#5 Wash your hands, rinse, repeat

I cramp after an hour when I pull a BS 360, or after a few hours during any maneuver or sprint. It's a fact of life. Nothing you do will help. Banannas do squat. Hydrating just makes you pee. Don't blow 10 mins of your session stretching. It's from the dehydration and cold water. Do a quick stretch before you paddle out, but don't waste that much time.

Learn to sit on your board and stretch your calves by pulling your fins. Be able to paddle back out into the lineup using just your arms.

Ahhh, I love how I don't have to read what Speed Bump/sharc*** writes after putting him on the ignore list. Same for some others here. Bliss.

Thanks, I was at Narr town beach, hit there@8 left at 4ish. Not saying it was all close outs, but not tons of peeling on the big boys coming in.
I know that I took a risk asking these knuckleheads about cramping, I'm sure it coulda gotten real ugly, but it's an actual question. I got fantastic ideas and advice, no doubt. Only reason I was asking medical advice is because I figured on a surfing/ bodyboarding forum someone else had experienced the same thing, it's not like I was asking for advice on my aunties toe fungus.
It's all good, I'm a contractor so I live in the world of busting chops, and I've read so many of these threads that I know how the game works.

If you're doing all those things and you're still cramping up then you just might be a less of a human. Men don't cramp, women do. It's science...

Hey Amanzi, come on dude, I gave some advices.

For what it's worth, whenever I cramp, it's usually when I'm trying to duck a set. Or ditch a set, I mean.

Surprised no one has said it yet, or I missed it... but, calcium supplements.... Hydration and upping potassium intake are key as well, but you'll still cramp if you're calcium deficient.

Are you serious? It's actually quite ridiculous and total untrue. Ever watch any pro sports event in your entire life? Dudes are affected in every major sport. Lebron, Jordan, many super athletes to name a few.
Put it on a tshirt- and look like a doofus. But many that's the intent

The law of specificity is understandable if you were just using us as one sample of your self-assessment. But bro, if this is plaguing you across the board even out of the water, even when you're running ball on the blacktop or chest-boning some wahine, please, seek professional advices and help. Not professional amateur advices on here.

Btw bro, swell of the year and you go to Town Beach? How fugged up is you? So many preferable spots over that one. Spicoli was ripping OH peelers by the dozen bro, and I'm just an overgrown grommet that's been surfing 18 months. I'm talking pa pa pa down the line like a wet dream then wapahhh off the lip. Smack it and VB air out bro. The type of waves that make you a better surfer by the minute. Then after the sesh you go get a chicken bowl from the dope wahine working the taco stand and she gives you a filthy smile like she knows that it's high time she ditched the college boys and gets rocked by a real hombre.

The lineup called, they're running out of kooks and want you back. Town Beach? When the buoy sits at 6.2@12 and clean? Damn knee grow.

Kook? I'm too old to care about name calling friend.
And I actually love going to that beach, free parking, great deep break out in deep water.
I don't live in RI so I don't know all the secret locations, I've found Narr Town beach to be the best, if you'd like to pm me and clue me in on the better breaks by all means do, but you guys treat these spots like the holy grail so you probably won't.

Lately I've been living on coffee, pizza, beer, and whatever my kids don't eat at dinner, so yeah, I can change my diet a bit...I'll pass on Mr Wayne's concocktion.
If this invest hits y'all can look for me in Narr Town Beach, I'll be the kook stretching in the corner while ingesting large amnts of protein bars, vitamin waters, coconut drinks, and trying on various sizes and shapes of fins.
Thanks for all the input fellas.

    Ain't this thread over yet?
