If you can be in the states, I don't see the problem being vegan just about anywhere else. As in the states, the city areas, will always offer more options. Most of my surf travel has been to latin america, which is largely beans and rice based, so I wouldn't think you would have too much problem getting by in latin america.
With all due respect to SI Admin, most beans cooked in Central America is cooked using animal products - that's why they taste so good. If he wants vegan for his surf vaca why just just take a trip to the market and prepare the meals yourself. Seems like a lot of wasted energy and misuse of surf vacation trying to work around the location of vegan restaurants. First world problem.
I don't think I can survive without eating meat.yes I said it. I eat salad everyday too,but just as an appetizer.like how do u fill yourself up when ur starving and the only thing u can eat is a cucumber or a carrot.sounds like terrorism to me.i eat pigs, chicken, cows, goats, even had an alligator bbqd which sucked, real chewy.i know a place out in Montauk that sells crazy food dishes, like a ostrich steak and shyt like that.i had some kind of ribs, dont remember from what kind of animal. and to the "have u seen how they make porkchops or hotdogs or whatever"...yea I think its horrible what they do to the animals,i seen foodinc,it was scary, but I ate chicken right afterwards.cows are one of my favorite animals too,but I like eating them more.if I had land I would own a bunch of cows and chickens and let them live their life.
Gotta pound the sh** out of it. Best prep is to grind the meat. Gator Balls. Yeah I said it. But its dankity dank.
Well, dairy just disagrees with me, and eggs, well, chickens are gross and I don't really want to eat anything that came out of a chicken. In terms of meat, I think there were a few formative moments as a kid. When I was about 10, my dad taught me how to slaughter a chicken -- cutting its heat off etc. I remember thinking that was pretty disgusting... and then also around age 10 or 11 I remember fishing with my grandpa in Alabama and he would use raw shrimp as bait and bite each raw shrimp in half before he put it on the hook, and I remember biting one in half and then looking inside and seeing all of the veins/etc and it somehow made me think of what I would look like if you bit me in half. Basically I think a lot of people (maybe even "most") draw a line somewhere of how closely related something can be to them that they will eat the corpse of. Some people might eat human flesh but they wouldn't eat their brother or their parents. Some people might not eat human flesh at all... some people might not even want to eat monkeys / other primates / things that share like 95% DNA similarity with humans. Some people won't eat humans or any animals that look cute or smart... i.e. they wouldn't eat dog or cat or human, but they would eat pig ( which is probably just as smart as a dog or cat but not as cute?)... I just draw the line at biological kingdom -- in my opinion, I am too closely related to the other animals so I don't want to eat their corpses if I can help it. I'd rather kill, torture, and eat things that are a lot more distantly related to me (i.e. plants, fungi, bacteria, etc). I used to be a farmer and I am aware that it is pretty much 100% impossible to grow food/plants without directly or indirectly killing animals; also, if I could press a button and every parasite would die, I probably would, because those ****s gross me the **** out and need to die... lyme ticks, leeches, hookworms, etc.
So basically, your choice to become a vegan was made mostly due to traumatic experiences during childhood? Plus, it was made based on the fact that we have genetic similarities with almost all animals? My God, dude, you need to go to Kauai STAT and eat a triple stack Terriyaki burger. The beef they use is 100% from cows raised on Kauai. Once you realize how great of lives those f**king cows are living, you will want to eat a quad stack. So good brah, just coats the mouth with goodness afterwards. Post-surf grinds at its all-time finest. Don't even drink anything afterwards because you'll want to savor that cow for a day later. They must put macadamia nuts and fresh papaya ion their feed or something and get massages them burgies was so ono kine, brahhh.
Oh, and another thing...Fresh ahi tuna steaks from Foodland...at a joke of a price (sashimi grade too!). Sear it for 30 secs on each side, slice that sh** up, serve with soy and fresh wasabi, BOOM, you'll bust a nut. so good brah, you forget all about being a vegan. the mercury in the fish will improve your surfing too..you know, in like micro doses.
i just asked google where should a vegan surfer travel. http://www.waterfallvillas.com/ costa rica, domincal good surf/ town while i was there but it was a million years ago. this place looks nice but pricey.
Well, ^^^pretty much this. I mean I love my cubeansies, but would be a treat. This is me: Hawaii is pretty damn myco-diverse, but what's extra special are the Panaeolus/Copelandia species. I'd obviously want to get my fill of barrels first...
