yeah aguaholic is right because volcom and transworld surf would have put a whole 2 page spread in transworld surf magazine and i gte bthem every month and no one nasent won it yet.
Oh u mean puttting it on youtube to watch? and why do people write paragraphs no one wants to read that much.
there was an article in surfing a few months ago that said warren smith won it and there was a sequence and everything.
"To date, no one has ever documented a cleanly landed kickflip on a surfboard" http://www.volcom.com/blogs/blog.asp?blogID=17 Although Warren Smith did come pretty close. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uGXY5j4VaQ You would probably spend 10,000 on boards to win that. And in regards to the actual topic, I think it would be nice if there was a contest actually held in good surf on the east coast, but so many people have prior commitments I doubt it would be plausible to have all the best talent there at a moments notice. Doesn't sound like a bad idea though, if you could work out the logistics of all the waves being filmed without bias. And only allow photographs if they're accompanied by the whole wave on film and if they allow for a different perspective. It would be nice to feel like you had a say in the judging though.
A novelty is it! A novelty is what we are looking for. Off the point, why do you use the word "Like?" Like are you like a valley girl by any chance (see how stupid it sounds?) Back to the point, The idea of an artist scoring a prize for a photo, is an award presented to the artist for their particular craft, not the surfer. So a surfer that didn't get the shot, doesn't get penalized. Are you getting the point? This is for delmarva surfers, at a delmarva spot. If you are not from here, then don't worry about it. Its meant to be a community project, not a b!tch and moan gag that people like yourself turn in out to be. All of your comments relate strictly back to the core area of judging. The very principle that I am trying to get away from. Life is unfair and someone who thinks they should be invited might not get invited. That is life. The logistics of this are out in the open. We will collect ideas and see if it turns into something worth going for? You are not GETTING THE POINT and my reason is that NO ONE is looking for the best surfer on the best day. That is crap and everyone is over that very elementary concept. It is an idea that has the community all playing off of each other with a higher thinking art aspect stirred into the mix. Surfers bye things from shops, shops sell to surfers, surfers check forecasts, forecast tells you were to surf, surf shops advertise on forecast, people in the community help run the small surfing population that is a sub-culture within itself. And if you can't read this paragraph in less then a minute, you should have surfed less and got an education!
About the volcom thing, I thought he did make it, woops. And OBlove, why don't you just chill the **** out and stop being a pompous asshole. I just was trying to understand your concept and obviously i didnt fully understand it. Sorry if i bunched those panties of yours based on my assinine opinion. Off the point, do you point out the slightest use of slang as a way too show how smart you are? Did you go to Harvard? Are you an author? Jeez that was unneccasary. Asshole.
The "activity" sounds interesting. I like the idea that it is not a "contest" which rules out ESA and sponsorships. Nonetheless, you probably need to consider permitting and insurance issues which based on your prior experience you probably have already thought about. The open season is probably too long and not realistic for the DelMarVa (Delaware, Maryland and Chincoteague beaches?). Best "big swell window" for this event is September-November, which combines tropical storm season and warmer water Nor'Easters, and is hands down the most consistent swell season. Probably need to narrow down the consideration of which beaches since we're dealing with many different jurisdictions and entities. The idea of seeking out sponsors, local, regional, national and international starts to break down the spirit of this event of an exposition of DelMarVa larger wave surfing. Along these lines I like the idea of a completely open "cash registration" event: take some amount, e.g., 20 percent off the top, to cover costs and then divide winning purses among the top 5 riders within each waveriding category based on the division's cash pool. I'm not too worried about too many participants since on most 8 to 10 foot plus days there are not that many folks actually out in the water, there isn't a $1K purse and you're limiting participation to MD/DE/VA residents. YouTube posting of all rides and judging sounds like an innovative way to go. Yes, you can have a viewer panel, but I also like the idea of a previously established panel of judges.
good points. good points rodn. all things considered, i think most people are seeing the big picture now. sep-november is best bet for sure!
My friend, your grammatical soapbox is riddled with punctuation and usage holes. A period (.) should follow a statement, not a question mark (?). You've used "bye" as the abbreviated form of "goodbye" instead of it's verb form, "buy," as in purchase, yet not "by," as a common preposition. And I see you've already corrected the spelling of your post earlier... Let he who is without education cast the first stone...
athreehourtour justm pulled a card out of a deck what did it say it said NERD.we is surfers not english teachers.if i wanted to be a teacher i would shoot myself since i hate skool. and all i do is dream of the waves for the day and have done all the tricks in the book to get out of skool and surf so stop being a nerd on a surf forum. im just messing with you athreehourtour its all in the fun of cabin fever.
Ahhhh, the uninformed and uneducated youth of today. Not a teacher by any means, but good try. You see, what I was doing was showing Mr. Oblove that in his attempt to challenge, or call others out, he was in fact diminishing his own intelligence. My advice to you little man..I'd say if you're not fully sponsored, or have industry name sponsors chasing you down already, stay in school and go to college so that you can afford to enjoy and do what you love for the rest of your life without any worries. You should ask around the message boards about an old OC local by the name of Max Hoshino before you go equating "nerd" to educated folk...
well you see i actually do have a sponsors chasing me down. but dont worry ill stay in skool and get my high skool deploma.
"A sponsors" chasing you down???? Oh, do tell who the lucky manufacturer/s is/are so I can look for you in their next movie throwin down radical aerial maneuvers!!!!
All of the childish arguing aside... I really like this idea. I think it is a great idea, not only as a local surfer, but also as a photographer. Even if prizes werent offered for the best shots, it would still be a great way for people to go out there and get some great footage and film.
