that waves actually doesn't look very fun to me. maybe if i was longboarding but way too mushy. on the other hand i would probably be checking that spot next time buoys are reading 9' @ 12 sec cuz newps would be way too big for me... :)

Just guessing, because the video was a slightly elevated angle, which messes with the eyes, but I would say that was about head high by SoCal standards. You could maybe call a set or two of those OH, but they really weren't ridable and they weren't making it over that second channel/hole that they were running into. And that inside section wasn't even HH really. Interesting wave. The SUP had the best equipment, the single fin guy did well also, but the SUP guy could have milked it through to the inside had he cutback further and really played in that white wash through the fat area.

That is what sunset cliffs look like on a super high tide, but with not that much swell. Just rolling, but not working.

Not sure if Doheny was protected from that swell angle, but it must have been, unless its just super deep there and that session was filmed at high tide.

Cool as$ looking wave, but definitely not a substantial SB wave. Probably a sick LB spot at a low tide.

Yup I was there 26th-2nd...stayed in Huntington for a few days then camped at Trestles on the Marine Corp base. I hear ya...I'm not trying to hype up Doheny as an awesome wave but it was fun early Wednesday morning and good enough to get a pic on surfline.

I surfed 55th street the weekend before when Lowell hit (4-7'). It was pretty nuts. I can only imagine what Marie looked like in person. Dope Video!

The place looks super fun. It's nice to find a somewhat mellow, interesting spot like that when everything else is maxing out so bad. It's like in SD, I remember the "Big Wednesday" in 05, it was maxing out, huge at all the big wave spots, big as it gets, and my friend showed me pics of Tourmoline that day. It was maxing out a couple feet overhead. Super mushy and strange, but it looked plenty fun. I spent most of the day elsewhere trying to stay alive. Shoulda gone to PB. And that is something I would almost never say. For any reason.

Smithfield, thanks very much for the footage bro! Glad you scored hard out there. You did it right.

I know Doheny isn't some great break or anything but it's awesome to see it even going off like that and the place has a ton of history. I typically go to the 2-3 spots north of it when I'm there, if not up to Honeyton, but have had a couple fun sessions there and definitely some fun, mellow waves. The crowd you saw there on the vid is the same size crowd you'll see on a Saturday when it's 2-3' also, with much less talent than shown there. Not a lot of kookery have I encountered in SoCal, if any elsewhere, yet that place does seem to have it on the reg on the small days. Lots of skill in that vid though!

Thanks again bud. I really enjoyed that footage and to me, it's kind of larger than life. I've been at Tr****** when it's well OH and out there for some serious swells and Doheny has never been close to that. Cool to see.

Gotta say that pictorial on Surfline you linked to is bananas. Can't wait to see the whole reel on Friday when they come out with it. Wow.
