I know we have all seen it and wished it was near us, but AC could really use something like this. AC has a huge empty space that used to be an airport. There are no ****ty neighborhoods to get through, and its 5 minutes from the AC expressway. This could be plopped down in that spot with plenty of room to build other attractions on. Stores, restaurants, accommodations etc. They are looking for a rebranding right? I think planners really need to consider this as a piece of the puzzle. This place will be packed 24/7 with surfers of all ages, families and the such. The economic investment is nothing compared to the 2.5 billion dollars invested in the revel, at about 3-5 million?

I don't know the specifics, i don't know if it would work in a wintery state like NJ? or if winds effect the wave quality? I don't know if heating water would be economically viable if they use the bay water as their source? I guess a study would need to be made, but the idea is great, and would pump a ton of tourism and jobs into the city it so desperately needs.

I live at the beach, but i would still be driving over to the wavegarden for a few sessions. I would pay 100$ an hour to ride those waves!!

damn good idea except for....cultural divide.
    really; good idea.
ac could also use a rv campground like the rest of the country...
also helps that current mayor significant improvement over last.

i think it would draw everyone from the east coast. It would be the first of its kind in the country as far as i know, outside of typhoon lagoon, and the flowmasters, which dont count IMO. As far as cultural divide, that's why Bader Field is perfect! its far away from the crap. Look at the Flyers Skate Zone, that makes it. The place is always packed!

is the ocean broken?then why fix it?

save the wavepools for places that need em like Pennsylvania and ohio, places that don't have the beach.if they had it in Pennsylvania,we wouldn't have them driving up here every swell.

Ac needs a lot more than a wave pool. With the casinos all closing it's going to be a wasteland in 5 years, unless there's a miracle to save it.

At this point, AC is a shell. There will always be a couple casinos except now it'll just be the best ones... the restaurants, shopping, parking, hotel rooms and TONS of beach front empty reality will bring back investors who want to cash in on the new family friendly vibe that the state and city will no doubt be pushing from now on. I could see one of these recently closed casinos becoming a testing ground for a new wave of adult entertainment; skilled gaming like madden/halo/COD tournaments to replace the traditional slot machine/table game, maybe even recreational indoor sports/water sports... There are facilities opening around the country with indoor wave pools, indoor sky diving, flowriders etc all geared toward this market; people like us. Adults who are active who will spend money to have FUN...Back to my point... AC is a shell that, in my opinion, will be filled back up. We have the infrastructure to support large events, big influxes of people and traffic.. as long as there is a casino presence here- I think they will march forward. I don't know at what pace but I would assume quickly considering only a few weeks into these closings they are talking about booting out the ACPD. I have friends in the police here so I wouldn't wish them to lose their jobs but it just goes to show that anything is (could be) on the chopping block. Its going to be an interesting road ahead.

I feel the same way. 10 years from now A.C. could be a huge destination on the EC. It would be interesting if Harrah's made a play for Revel and started the "family oriented" growth by making the entire resort a family destination with NO gaming. Huge possibilities there.

I dont see how it could possibly stay in the gutter in the long run, all coastal real estate (save asbury park) in jerz is expensive, I almost feel like gaming was keeping it in the gutter

    Ha......

South Jersey, besides the immediate Philly Metro Area is done. It's over. It's worse than Alabama and will continue to get worse.

Hey, you guys do know that besides the "flashy" casinos, Atlantic City is nothing but a ghetto, right?

What kind of economic engine are you going to create in a ghetto. Casinos are like the only thing that would fit. Now every state has gaming halls and AC lost its monopoly.

Atlantic County is the worst county for employment in the country. In the country.....The worst county......in the country.

Atlantic County is depressed. Cape May county has Ocean City, but that's it(seasonal sh!t anyway). Cumberland County is a rural/urban semi-hell with a mix of rural white trash, Millville bloods and Vineland cholos.

Salem County ?? Is that even a place??

All your kids are on heroin, and you don't even realize it. You people have no idea how much heroin rules New Jersey.

Ha, I love when the Outer Banks dudes talk aboot their drug scourge. HA!! LOL!! Dude, their smack is so stepped-on before those Wanchese guys get a hold of it, to repackage it, it ain't even funny. They's shooting Bisquick and quinine.

And this was before all the casinos started closing.

South Jersey is done. Get out while you can.

Oh, MIS, you back in Jersey yet? Maybe you can revitalize the area with your messages and theories.

Oh MIS, I've totally lost my MOJO the past month. Something just ain't right with me since the beginning of August, so this is a good time for you to attack.

you are pretty dramatic. its over? what is? the casinos? i dont work in the casinos. get out? why? i get waves most the year live a block from the beach and only have to deal with a crowded line up 2 months out of the year. my kids are on heroin? are you aware that is a HUMAN epidemic and not limited to any imaginary line arbitrarily drawn in the sand?

where do you live? haha you probably hate it there too.

    also, you probably don't surf.

    so theres that.

You get waves most of the year, huh? Wow.

Yeah, I don't surf, dude. You sound informed.

I love these dudes who can't figure out where I live. It's right in front of them.

I dig these AC dudes too.

NONE of them live in AC. I repeat NONE of them live in AC except BungalowParkBob. They all live in Northfield or Linwood. Or maybe they live in Longport and claim AC? They don't even know where Bungalow Park is..... or Duck Town or Chelsea.

Dude, open your eyes. South Jersey is finished. Maybe you haven't seen the place transforming into Alabama? South Jersey has some of the poorest counties in real America.

This BS aboot making AC a family friendly location is complete utter nonsense, unless your wife and kids like crack and guns. That's what AC is: Dope, crack and guns. Yeah, let's bypass that wholesome Ocean City vacation and let's go to AC !!!

Lets see, do we stay at a casino for $400 a night or try one of the crack motels on Pacific Avenue?

And arbitrary lines...? Dude, this state is her-ron central and has been for a long time.

It seems that you are completely clueless to anything that goes on outside your little world....

" Hey South Jersey's great, I still have a job...."

Yeah unless you are in healthcare, we'll see for how long, Ponyboy

Hey Ponyboy, drive down the Black Horse Pike.......drive down The White Horse Pike and tell me what you see. This whole area is the beaches, the casinos, and the friggin Hamilton Mall. And two of those things are seasonal. Oh, STORYBOOK LAND FRIGGIN KICKS ARSE !! EHT is a dump.

This area is nothing but stretches of rural bleakness with abandoned homes and such, suburban decline, and urban decay. There is no industry around here. We ruled during America's manufacturing days, but it's been all downhill from there....

And now the final nail in the coffin has arrived........

Oh yeah, Chris Christie is going to save us...........

Dude, just let it rest because you do NOT know more aboot this area than I do.

Dude, you've been out of The Inlet for a long time.....

Dude, AC started American Beach Culture

Then it declined and has been declining.....

The casinos kept it on life support.........but never helped THE CITY. The city stayed poor.

And consider this: The great minds couldn't even make AC prosper given it's location(BEACH...Smack in the middle between DC and Boston).

No one took advantage of the beach......and it's too late now.

No one likes AC's beaches except white trash from inland states. But they don't know any better.

    Tourists are scared of AC.

You know, I'm kind of sick of the anonymous BS on this site.

Wavesliderac, where in AC do you live? Where do you surf?

Ok, you don't have to throw out secret spots like Metros or South Carolina Ave, but please do tell where in AC you live.

The Village? Carver Hall? Under the boardwalk?

You have to love the blissful ignorance. I can just imagine this dude in Poland in June of 1939, "Nahhh, Hitler's cool, brah." Then in September....

    Boom goes the dynamite......

Hey, Once the Taj Mahal closes that will be around 10,000 jobs lost in less than six months in a city of 30,000 people. Yes, most casino workers live in EHT and Galloway but the figures make a point.

But this will affect THE WHOLE DAMN AREA. I leave you to figure that one out. Have your dopa addcited kids explain it to you.

Man, this site is so dull without me.........

It only took Asbury 40 years to turn back around (supposedly) and if you go 5 blocks in from the beach you still might die in gang related crossfire. You can do it AC!

Ha...i was scrolling thru MIS (who i thought knew his ****)post about cheap land in asbury.....that was 10 years ago dude **** aint cheap there now that there is porta, hipsters, and parking meters. We will be paying to park in dirt lot in a year or so....so I was about to bail on the thread when honestly Ghost of SJB saved another thread.

I was thinking this thread is going nowhere and then he blasts some dude for not knowing his own kids are on dope and then dude defends himself like "my kids aren't on dope"...

and this is all because mookie suggested a wave pool in AC

i remember mookie from like localswell swell fame....dang

anyway this thread sucks but I gotta say AC is where one who is married goes once a year on ridiculous bachelor parties costing $500 plus if your lucky for so so friends who will soon be divorced. Its usually a **** show including a ****ty bus ride or horribly bed bug ridden casino hotel. Crap dinner thats too much and some dude aint paying his share. Trying to get bottle service for 8 dudes for $500 for 2 bottles minimum. Then bailing to go to BYOB stripclub to completely lose whats left with your dignity. You lose your boys and end up walking back from said BYOB stripclub at 5am all the way to Harrah on the harbor cause by now your just broke, drunk, stupid, and AC has had it way with you. But that's just a hypothetical situation.

Last time I stayed near south end of boardwalk (sheraton?) and got up a 530am to surf...it was beautiful and perfect head hi waves. Not a soul on the beach. They were all in the hotel lined up 100 deep for free tuperware sets the hotel was giving out that day. Thats the kind of person AC attracts...think old people smoking constantly who smells bad and have theories on what chair to sit at the slots

SJB I love ya, but no one makes references like this to H without being a dope head themselves. From my experience once a dope head always a dope head. SO whats you deal about constant references no one is asking for on a surf site about dope. Again...I like ya...funniest one on here. Like i like tree...but aint claiming i bought on road X in camden from pookie....it's a little over the top yet right one somehow

    your as bad as can....

You're back in Jersey or just visiting?

I don't know man. Who wants beach property surrounded by shells of casinos and Baby J and Whiz selling crack two blocks from the beach?

There's no crack in Ocean City.

That inlet area is confused. They started the gentrification, but then stopped. The white poeple who live there seem confused and sometimes overstep their boundaries by reporting open air drug dealing. Now, it's a few blocks of bombed-out rowhomes intermixed with some new townhomes. Very odd place. Hey, I used to go to that liquor store around there.

Well, Hanna welcome back or have a good visit.

    Thanks, I guess.

Dude, you need to reread that post you just posted here. It's a little confused.

    Have you've been drinking?

I'm not hassling you Boog, just curious because you usually have your wits aboot you.

Everyone loves to talk aboot drugs. Some just are too stupid to realize it. Booze and weed are always discussed on here. Some people don't realize that booze, weed, PCP, heroin - the intent is all the same. It's all the same, just with different levels of intoxication and consequences. Alcohol is actually the most destructive drug on the planet. Drunks are arseholes too.

Yeah, I was a dope addict(inhalation, no needles) for aboot 6 years. I went to Philly and Camden, where the real boys play. AC is for amateurs. Well, maybe they've stepped-up their game in the past years.

I've done heroin, um, like 6 times in the last four years. Not bad, huh? I've totally got my dependecny issues under control.

Just ax Seldom, we got beer and I only drank four beers one night and three the other. I used to out-drink the nations of Australia, Germany and Ireland.

You want to know what's really eerie?

    I just ate a WhiteHouse cheese hoagie............uncanny.

Wavesliderac, The WhiteHouse is a hoagie(sub) shop real close to the Florida & Texas Ave crack location.
