hahahahah I totally feel you on that, I usually do two bowl backs right before I walk in the water no matter what the wave height is, I mean getting barreled while stoned is amazing because the hype you have when your paddling back out is like no other

It's a must..... Most of the time.... Helps make the lulls and time not actually paddling in much more enjoyable. The lost in nature kind of thing.

Yes, always. The bigger it is the less I burn. But I always get stove up for the low tide barrel sesh.

    Bongs thread is gone.

There may still be a bongs 2. It is not a long thread, but I started it. I do have some tidbits I'd like to add once I get a camera that can do the goods justice. Maybe today.

Yeah, the bigger, the sketcher. Gotta be careful or before you know it, you will be day dreaming with pelicans and have let 8 sets go by. Found myself out there, especially alone, just dazed out, pulling off at the last second for a while as sets go by. Biggest thing to do in a situation like that is to just get out there and take the first big one you can and if you are blazed, you usually wait and wait and wait....

psychedelics are the best, but sometimes one can be deceived. Back in the 70's we'd drop before leaving for OBX at 3 or 4 am to beat any traffic and be out at first light. We got to Duck Pier once and boosted with a hit and a half. it looked tiny when the sun came up. for an hour or 2, we found other things to investigate. 2 guys paddled out on the N side turned and what we thought was 1' mac waves was headhigh. Silly us.

I do that a lot when I'm longboarding in the winter and the sun feels so warm on your suit. When you think about it, it really is the best place to sleep, so peaceful.

i like surfing sober. well, maybe a little drunk sometimes. if I'm on vacation and there's a beach bar nearby or if we pack some beers in a cooler or something, surfing with a buzz can be fun.
otherwise, i have been absolutely useless every time I tried to surf after partaking in the wacky-backy. some guys I know swear by it, i just can't make that magic happen.

Heard quite a few stories about this from an ex-pro am guy I kicked it with. Super talented dude, but just out there. Told me stories about taking a ridiculous amount of shrooms and surfing at night. He told me he surfed a couple of the biggest days ever on Sunset Cliffs on Mushrooms. He was into it though. I think it sounds TERRIBLE. But he spoke of giant, purple tubes, and getting dropped as$ first into shallow reef over the falls and not feelings it. Crazy things about the creatures in the sea.....

I am a beer guy. In CA, I had "authorized" use of the shrubs, but man, that psychedelic stuff. Not my cup of tea. No pun intended. Mentally, I don't do well when I leave the normal realm for too long.

I can't imagine things going well for me in the water while under the influence of anything like that. I would loose my sh**. straight up.

I love this, just so meditative. Kind of just puts me in another zone where motions feel a little more significant... duck diving and the water rushing past you, the resistence behind each paddle stroke, slowing down the drop and eyeing the ripples sliding up the face. A little extra appeciative of it all. It's an enhancement on top of the already great experience.

Sometimes I find myself a little less aggressive on turns and cutbacks after burning, other times things feel a little more loose. I have made the mistake and ended up staying on the beach after indulging a little too much off the volcano before a big session though...

    ^^ This....

But remember to be extra careful when packing up your gear. I left booties on the back of a jeep. Left a brand new fish in front of Winstons in OB... All because of the "indo".

    Well said nkh.

Zach I could see potential for that(the pysch sesh) going horribly wrong, but also amazingly right...it would be a very controlled experiment in benign conditions.
