Just saying guy from jersey writing another crappy article about jersey few years ago debate on localswell....he was saying kirra came to long branch with beach replenishment that actually ruined the break. Article on Seaside heights in one of the mags saying "everyone in new jersey has a special place for seaside" F no dude I hate the place and avoid it at all costs. way off Was reading the article on easternsurf about belmar pro saying it was kanoa's first time there....except he was actually there last year....weaksauce...then mentions how crappy the sand was in belmar..... Shoulda let buckley handle it? Reading his trash is prob worse...yikes sorry for rant....like i said in past someone gotta make a living off covering Jersey surf scene ....I guess
the belmar contest got no surf but they ran it anyway so all the winners could blab to the press about how good they are but none of the people named in acpress article about belmar contest show up at the "stand-out" breaks and actually surf cause then they wouldn't be phonys. you know, the kind that win contests.....even if there is no surf.
Ok coen seems like good dude then constantly writes crap articles all somehow based round nj... I just dont think coen or buckley represent us well. Buckley just seems young and uneducated. Coen has to pump out jobs for numerous avenues but to ME .. Never seems to get it right.
you guys must be joking. Jon Coen has been in the game for over 10 years covering the scene and is one of the best. Dude's been published by everyone from ESM to Surfers Journal As a reader, I like the brevity he writers with. Its not easy to express your thoughts that way - quick and concise.
Somehow they convinced the Corps to create a sand point in Long Branch during beach replenishment. It was a mini point break...it was awesome. Kirra is a stretch but it was the best surf spot in NJ for a brief period hands down. Only lasted a few weeks before a storm destroyed it. But yes in the overall picture sand replenishment destroyed surfing in Long Branch and many other areas. I'm sure Coen would agree with that also. The sand is crap in Belmar. They pumped orange crappy gravel on the beaches this time when they came through. It's not even sand Every surfer should continue to fight beach replenishment as much as possible My special place for Seaside disappeared long ago. I've boycotted the town since they allowed MTV to film there and make a mockery of the entire Shore. But it was a great place as a kid
just cuz he is published and from around here does not mean he is good... i guess he is the go to guy for "east coast" surfing coverage. When he is published by the big mags i feel slighted. "in the game 10 years"...yay Maybe i'm expecting more. Maybe we deserve better.... i'm alway stoked to see local coverage then most often quickly disappointed by the content....they spell the names of our towns wrong, they tell me how great Jersey's winter has been from Oceanside, they give Hammer a token cold water surf trip, they tell me how great the army corps sand replenishment is going, they show me pics of gudangs surfing AC....its all bs..... i think somewhere there is a quota for east coast content and somewhere around March Editors are like oh **** call Coen and make sure there is some snow in the pics ....
I grew up in Seaside Heights. Surfed Casino since I was 4 until it was gone. I moved to Belmar right out of high school and relied on sponsors and my job as a contractor from then on. I am now 28 and still surf in Seaside Heights now and then. Most of the time I just skate down my street and surf 15th ave. But, my point, yes, I still have a place in my heart for Seaside.
me too. my first swept-through-pier episode....if you feel like could you answer a question? is the break still there (both sides) or was the surfing beach also lost in the fire??
Ya know, I don't really even look at the northside anymore. There is so much construction going on around the remaining pier that its almost hard to see. I just park on Blaine Ave, when and if I surf there, occasionally.
seaside is nice in the wintertime, that is all.i know too many people who got locked up there, jumped there, robbed there, etc.but walking down the boardwalk on a cold feb morning with the offshores, its a beautiful sight.then summer comes and idk how da phuk to describe it lol. Belmar is the best,as always. and long branch never had a kirra like wave.the beach replenishment destroyed the only tubes they had.after sandy it was like kirra, but it was made by mother nature, not the corps. surf scene in nj.I would say there isn't one.who wants to hear about jersey.how many different surfers from different countries come to jersey?jersey sucks as a surf scene.wardo came here in 94,that was about it.oh yea allegedly andy irons was surfing hurricane bill at the inlet,i was there,in the water, surfing,I did not see him or anyone who could surf like him.the only reason I went to the inlet was to try to see pete mendia or cory lopez doing there "the hunt" series.i did not see any of them, but did see a pic in surfer mag of mendia surfing jenks, again I was disappointed. jersey does get epic tho,but so does every coastline that has an ocean lol.just not that often.some years are better than others.after sandy it was the best I ever seen.i only been surfing for 14yrs so I wouldn't know.i do hear some crazy tales from my senior citizen surfer buddy about the jetties they had in sea bright during the 70s.I don't think sea bright broke since the 70s.i just wish our beaches were hard to get to and didn't have restauraunts and bars next to them.if we had a spot like lower trestles, where u have to hike to get to it,i would enjoy surfing jersey more.
im near Belford, bout as north as it gets.all the spots basically have the same access,no obstacles.up in long island I know some really good secret spots u have to hike to.i don't know anywhere in jersey that has that, I been all up and down Monmouth and ocean counties.never really went surfing down south but I imagine its the same set ups
for the record I would much rather live and surf in long island.out of all the few places iv been lol,out in eastern li u have huge fields that look like ur in texas or something, then u have the water.its the perfect combination,no condos or houses on top of each other near the coastline.i lived with my long lost pops in south Hampton when I was like 4-7 then I had to come back to jers.went back out there a few years ago,its like going to a different country when leaving jersey.its truly amazing
I have no problem with Belmar. Been living here for 7 years and don't plan on going anywhere soon. And ya, sometimes you second guess why you live where you do, but thats why I travel. Went to MTK on Wed, best waves I've had in a couple weeks. Check thread "Todays DP in Ditch Plains."
I am whining... Cause the mags have always got it wrong... Then a few years ago we get a local guy who seems to be honest and know his ****...i was always a lil suspicious his wife was alwAys the photogs in most his articles but hey keep it family right? Then came this misinfo on long branch, then the crap articles, then he misquotes himself on ESM saying kanoa was never in belmar. Its just not acceptable. That kirra comes to long branch article got mad surfline hits i remember it well. Maybe he got one good session but i lost a break ive surfed my whole life maybe for good. Yall wanna ra ra ra drink the coolaid thats on you. I crave good content, but am mostly dissappointed. Thats probably why you are all here... Seeking some more in depth content. Im pretty sure spelling beach names wrong in articles about cali gets one fired. But post a pic of long beach nj( yes it happened) and its like whatever you guys are just lucky we ran a pic. I mean to each his own some people watch fox news
