don't know what u people are talking about patagonias are great.i never bought one,but I rented one a few years back during winter, rocked a Patagonia 3/2 in late December, and a Patagonia 3/2 is actually like a 5/3.don't know the specifics, but I know a 3/2 isn't a 3/2.i rented a lot of wetsuits during the winter months,i finally got my own winter suit 2 years ago so I havnt been to lbi since.my opinion all suits work well.i used to rent the oldest beat up 5/3 chest zip and it always kept me warm in January.im sure the durability as how long the suit lasts is what your paying for
I just replaced my Hyper flex Amp. It took about 5 seasons worth of abuse. Started failing last year, so I glued the seams and nursed it through it's last season. I replaced it this week with a new Hyperflex Flow (discontinued model) which was priced really well. it honestly looks just like the Amp did a few years back. I guess that tells you how I feel about them. I used to buy Oneal and Rip curl prior to these. I find this are a small notch down in quality, but a big notch down in price. It's worth it for me. I buy 6mil and I'm warm in anything NJ gets. I will not recommend Hyperflex boots. I found them incredibly poor compared to all others I've used. I keep them in my trunk as a spare pair, but they suck. I have a pair of xcel mittons, and these things are so warm and indestructable, they simply amaze me. When my current boots wear out, I'll be buying Xcel. If the quality of their boots is half that of their gloves, I'll be happy. For comparison, I used to only expect one season from a standard pair of rip curl or Oneil gloves....5 finger or lobster, didnt matter, seams always leaked by end of season. These Xcels are just like day one, and I've been using them for years.
I prefer my ScubaPro 3mm whit i got from Dipndive last summer. It's very warm and durable. Never had an issue with it. Good choice with a reasonable price tag
This still popular in Kyiv?
Based on my pair, Hyperflex gloves are useless as well. 5 mm. gloves that leaked profusely right through the seams on both gloves from the very first time paddling out.
my cousin gave me his 5/4 drylock to keep and i was so hyped when i got it. would 7mil gloves and booties be an overkill or do you think it'll be good for the dead of winter in nj?
I will say that the cheap Hyperflex Access boots are great underneath fins, no straps or other stuff in the way
Boots...man...I have a pair of quicksilver neo-goo 2 mils (neoprene dipped). Best booties I've ever owned...true story. Looking to buy a pair of gloves like that as well...you can go thinner due ot the fact that they are pretty much sealed. However, I have a pair of the 7mil lobsters and they are incredibly heavy, but great for the coldest days. For winter...I'm always in 7 mil booties...
drylock ereythang, buy it on whiskey and pay 1/2. Sorry local shops, quit rippin' me off I might buy more than wax and leashes.
No Sh!t dude. What do you make little snorkels for them to breath through? I still have a combo of husky/cat hair as extra insulation, doing the job.
Nice score on the drylock. I don't think 7mil is overkill at all, but I subscribe to the, I would rather be a tad too warm than too cold philosophy, and I tend to stay out longer than the average winter surfer. I stopped the whole "try to go as thin as possible" thing with wetsuit gear a while back, but 5 mil will work all winter long in NJ as well. In fact, it's probably the more common thickness for NJ. I always found boots to be way more critical than gloves, because once your feet get numb, you'll be surfing like Frankenstein. For me at nearly 220lbs, an extra mil or 2 of rubber isn't what's holding me back, so I opt for warmth, but you never know, you just might get an extra few inches on your aerial 360 if your boots weigh a few grams less
